My niece Christines deceased husband is mentioned in the recent issue of newsweek thought you might wanna know.should be a interesting yet heartbreaking issue. RIP Christopher. Minnie His letter is posted farther down as a reply ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CORNING -- A Corning soldier who was born on the Fourth of July and killed in Iraq on Feb. 16, 2005, is mentioned in the most recent issue of Newsweek. The April 2 edition of Newsweek, available now at newsstands, is a special issue titled "Voices of the Fallen -- The Iraq War in the Words of America's Dead." On Page 6, it reads: "This Special Issue of Newsweek is dedicated to the American troops who have given their lives in Iraq. We particularly acknowledge the help and encouragement our project received from friends and families of these service members." The long list includes Army Sgt. Christopher M. Pusateri of Corning. Pusateri, a 2002 graduate of Corning West High School, served with the 82nd Airborne Division as a mechanic who took care of an armored Humvee. He was on a mission during his second tour in Iraq when he was shot. He died later in a hospital in Mosul. The Newsweek reporting tells soldiers' tales in Iraq -- in their own words. Pusateri is not among the soldiers quoted in the text -- though he could have been. "They contacted me and said they wanted to put parts of letters that the soldiers had sent home to their families in the magazine," said Brenda West of Corning, Pusateri's mother. "When I talked to them, I told them I would go through Chris' letters and see if I could find anything that was appropriate for printing. "I sent them two or three different letters," she said. "Most of it was just normal stuff. But one of the letters he sent home was about one of his friends who had gotten killed, and how upset he was and everybody else was. It was about how he wanted to be strong for other people who needed support more than he did. "That was the way he was," West said. "I thought it was kind of touching. I thought they might pick that one." Newsweek got West's name from a memorial Web site and called her about three weeks ago. Pusateri was married to his high school sweetheart, Christine Youngs Pusateri of Corning. The local unit of the 82nd Airborne Division Association has been named the Sgt. Christopher M. Pusateri All Airborne Chapter. It meets in Lawrenceville and Corning.

this is christophers letter in the newsweekwebsite.... this was written the day before his birthday....yep a 4th of July baby........................................... Army Sgt. Christopher M. Pusateri July 3, 2003 Hey Mom, How is everyone doing? I just finished another Book and I am waiting for the next one in the Trilogy. The Person is only 60 pages into the one I want. Well I have bad news last night a close friends life was taken. There was a explosive device on the side of the road. When they drove past it, it blew up and a fragment hit him in the back of the head were his helmet didn't cover. it bothers me to think that at any moment that very same thing could happen to me or another close friend. Everyone is upset about the matter as they should be. I do my best to stay strong so That I can help those more affected by this all. The person was from my company but in a different platoon. Courtesy Pusateri family Pusateri: 'I have bad news' ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- I comfort those who need it. I miss you all very much. I am going to try and call you once a week and let you know how I am doing. And if I need anything. I most likely will need Razors (Mach 3) and Shaving cream. But I wrote to Christine to send that to me. It is her responsibility to make sure I have that stuff. I don't mind being here it is just that mail is slow, no time to myself, and phones. Well lack of freedom. I used to complaine a lot out here. But I haven't been complaining as much even though ever one wants to rip my head off for asking a simple question so I know what is going on around me. The[y] yell or get nasty and tell me to not complaine. it gets on the nerves. The only reason I am keeping calm is because I have been reading and listening to music. I got to go out to guard. I'll get back to you [...] Love your son, Christopher M Pusateri Pusateri, 21, of Corning, N.Y., was killed by small-arms fire in Mosul on Feb. 16, 2005.

Minnie, Please give your niece my condolences and my gratitude for her husband's service. I am profoundly grateful for the young men and women who are willing to stand up for our country when the call comes. They are doing a great job over there, and I wish they would get the credit for what is being done instead of all the negative criticism. If you would be willing to IM me her address I would be happy to write to her personally. Jerry

I cannot express the amount of respect and admiration I have for these men and women who serve our country. I hope the families of the fallen don't believe the media when it comes to the publics opinion on this war. I refuse to believe 60% are now "anti-war", Many of us still believe in this mission and completely understand the stakes.

Condolances. These young men and women qualify as the best of the best of all of us regardless of viewpoint. At the moment they elect to serve and make the greatest of sacrifices up to and including the ultimate sacrifice they are the ideal manifest. Their reasons are many for service, but when called they serve. They are a reminder of the greatness still possible in our land. More personally, I know his parents and family could have no greater loss.
