I am so sad

My black lab Charlie who is 7 years old on Jan 15 was taken to the vet and diagnosed as blind in both eyes. The vet started by blurting out if I had noticed anything funny about his vision. I started out asking if he could be blind because he is walking into walls, doors, corners. It is amazing how much he gets buy with his sense of smell and memory of things. He has a disease in both retnas. Wont get worse, wont effect rest of body. I feel so badly for him. Ted just keep looking at him and crying. We just want him happy and safe.

Aw, Karla, that is SO sad. But on the good side, the rest of him is healthy, and I have know a few dogs that have lived, quite well, being totally blind. Praying for a long happy life for him. Chuck

Karla, We saved a deaf cat from a life on the streets. Phantom is a beautiful 22#all-white longhair, who is very close to being albino. When we found him, he had been displaced by a "new girlfriend who was allergic"....what a crock! I'm willing to bet, after 17 yrs, the girlfriend is long gone, but we still have this wonderful cat, who never would have survived on the street. Just like humans, Karla, animals have an amazing way of adapting, and as long as we are around to help, life can be very good! Charlie is lucky. He has your love........it means far more to him than his vision, I assure you. Cathi

So sad Karla but dogs live in the present. They can do reasonably well. We had deaf and blind dogs at the kennel where I worked back in the 60s. They can do well when they are young, especially. Not fun though and I am sorry for you and yours. Charlie

I'm so sorry, Karla. Do you have another dog? I once saw a TV story about 2 dog buddies. One went blind, and the other became his seeing eye dog. All on his own. I'm sending prayers for an easy adjustment.
