Thanks Tony.  The photo is the first with a new camera and I'm still learning how to use it.   The photo doesn't catch the details though, or the definition.  It turned out pretty well, all things considered. Mrs. Clarke liked it though!

Cool, Jen. It reminds me of Ike Godsey's store on the Waltons.

And in the other corner, would we find the pickle barrel and the guys playing checkers??
I just love it, Jenn.....a piece of "back when"!

Anyone remember the corner store? Ours was green...and I doubt anyone bought anything there but the penny candy! I loved the wax lips- unwrapped, of course!

LOL  y'all crack me up!

Clarke's is a page out of time. We have a lot of 'em here in Tappahannock, and I want to paint all of them.

Next might be the local pharmacy with the old-time lunch counter. Its charming as hell.

I'm homesick!!!  Been in the city too long!  That isone of the things I enjoy about driving over the road now, that I get to stop inplaces like that when I see them.  It has just a bit more personality than a Super WalMart.

Thank you all.

Next up is definitely Tappahannock Pharmacy. Talk about an "oh my gawd I've stepped back in time" feel!

Its the lunch counter all the way. Working on it now. I just got wind of a general store over in Urbanna that still has the ladders that are on casters to reach the high shelves.... can't wait for that one.

or how bout our downtown barber salon (underneath barber salon reads, "air conditioned" complete with barber pole on the side?

I have an idea!  how bout YOU GUYS pick the next??!

the pharmacy?

the restaurant?

or the barber shop?

YOU tell ME what to paint next  Smiley

I started painting the pharmacy soda fountain, but I am SO STOKED over doing the barber shop!  I drove past this morning, just before the sun rose, and the old guy was inside already cutting someone's hair. It was still kinda dark out, and the barber pole was lit, the light from inside broke the dark outside. It was so surreal and absolutely picture perfect!

I spoke with the proprietor this afternoon and took some inside pics; tomorrow I'll take early morning shots to get that lit inside effect. I can't wait to paint it!

Thank you all for your encouragement!

Hugs,
Jen

I just spent 5 days going through small towns on my way to N.C. and I just can't see myself living in one.
Nice pic tho! Wink
