In NH we have .8 tax per dollar on any prepared food eat in or take out.   What you are talking bout sounds stupid/ridiculous!  I would order to go then eat in the dining room afterwards anyways!

They'll continue to until we stop electing the ones who don't have a problem with it. I like to think that we deserve what we get in freely elected, democratic societies.

Mel, I'd buy the food at the drive-thru, park the truck, then take it inside and eat. Just to piss 'em off. If anyone confronts you, be sweet, kind, and extremely cooperative, but don't leave until you're done eating. If they insist on you paying some god-forsaken tax to eat, tell them to go ring it up on their cash register - the tax only - and to present you with a receipt (I'll bet their registers won't allow that kind of transaction). Then pay it, and vow (in an authoritative voice so all patrons can hear) never to eat there again (hey, it's McDonald's - no big loss, right?).

That's how insidious it is. The tax-and-spenders know exactly how the game is played. It starts out little and innoccuous. After awhile, nobody even notices anymore. Like being pecked to death by ducks - a peck here, a peck there, no big deal. But thousands of pecks will kill you.

And to think my forefathers went to war with the crown over what amounted to be a 0.5% increase in tax paid to the king. Nowadays people just go teats up and pay 30, 40, even 50% of their income to the government and don't even bat an eyelash.

Sad. Just plain sad.

Bill,

I think it was war over the fact that the America's didn't have representation in the Brittish Parlement over the taxes.

Now we have representitives who don't represent the people, but their own career interests.

It' still a farce, but I thought I'd interject anyway.

I heard it put brilliantly the other day. They start out as the people's representative to government, and the end up being the government's representative to the people.

That is nutts, Mel.  Do you know if this is a real tax that goes to a municipality?  Or is it a McDonald's tax?

Do you also have state sales tax on top of that?

Ya know B, I haven't a clue. Undecided    I don't think I saw a state tax included with it tho.

All I know is that it just doesn't seem right at all!  No other fast food places around here charge that, nor do the restaurants.  Why is it McDonald's does???

I just don't get it...

But it's "good" for the American People!!!   Geezz! I hate that phrase.... regardless of who says it (repub or demo).

We all work for the damn government so they can study the spotted owl or pay $10,000 to Halliburton for a hammer or toliet seat and we're supposed to "like it" cause it's good for us.

But we keep electing these career politicians who can afford to keep spending millions of dollars to run for office to "represent" themselves as "understanding" the common man among us (yeah right). I guess we should be thankful that they let us keep any of what we work to make.

Sorry Mel -- never heard of of an Eat In tax -- think I'd go to KFC or somewhere else and boycott MickeyD's.

I just don't understand where that tax comes from.  We went to another McD's in Madison that had the same thing. Huh

That is usually a city tax as is the take out tax (which is usually higher, for trash cleanup).  Most restaurants don't put it on the receipt as it is charged to the restaurants.  McD's puts it on the receipt so the customer understands they are being ripped by the local government.

BTW, no taxes are paid by companies in the long run.  The consumer always is the one who pays it in the end.  The government has just learned that they can demonize business as greedy and tax "them" and the general populace who knows little of economics won't notice.  McD's is trying to combat that.

Charlie,

Any food in NYS that is prepared before sale is subject to tax.  IN NYC they have the "hotdog tax" for street vendors.

If I saw Micky D's charge me for using a table after I paid for their overpriced food I'd tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine.  Used to be you could get a couple of cheeze burgers, fries and coke for $2  now it's like 6-7 bucks.  And the folks behind the counter are the slowest morons (the young ones) I have ever seen.

Micky D's is last choice in my book for food.

There should be a special tax for making poor food choices.
Why in the name of anything decent would you even consider eating this crap? I think you should be taxed 100% for eat in and 200% for carry out.
And then... you should be taxed for even advocating eating there..... and then taxed again just on principal. I found this subject very taxing...

Ok - just to have fun.  Make it interesting -- Make them COUNT out your change to you.... I'm OLD -- don't have a lot to do (yeah right). Love to screw with their little minds. When they hand me my change I just hand it back to them and say (politely), "would you please count this out to me? - just to make sure it's right."

Let's face it -- it costs McD's over .80 for them to "figure out" how to count change -- might as well get your money's worth. And if they cop an attitude ASK for a manager. that's worth at least $1.60.

Like I said - I'm OLD -- I take my fun where I can get it.

We don't go out to eat very often, being in the country and all.  My husband and 3 yr old son just got their haircuts in town and my husband had to be to work for 2nd shift so we needed something quick to eat, but where we could at least sit and eat it.  Eli, my son, decided where we were eating, so there you go!  Why don't you just tax the crap outta him? I hear that!  Not only the slowest but the DUMBEST here in our town.  I'll have to check a receipt for the in/out tax, but I wouldn't be surprised if our town charged a "they got the order right" tax.

I liked the idea of ordering to go, then sitting down to eat. What are they going to do about it?   nothing
