A Woman's Needs

Earlier today I rediscovered an album I had forgotten about. It's Duets by Elton John and a whole bunch of other outstanding musicians.

I forgot how much I loved this song, A Woman's Needs, a duet with Tammy Wynette from 1993. The lyrics are pretty special, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have:

Where have you been are you still on my side
Is that love or regret that I see in your eyes
How many years have we played out this game
Every time we come close the answer's always the same

I guess some souls get restless under the skin
There's a shortage by half of marrying men
You know that I love you but I love to be free
So tell me what do you want, yeah from a gypsy like me

I need a ring on my finger, champagne on ice
One man to show me the best part of life
Is that what you want
Yeah, that's what I need

A home and a family makes sense for us
A solid foundation built out of trust
Do you think you can find that with someone like me
Two arms to hold me, one place to be
Are just some of the things that a woman needs

I've been shortchanged and cheated so many times
But you're all that I've wanted For all of my life
I've searched for the reasons, known how I've felt
But what can I give you when I can't trust myself

I need a ring on my finger, champagne on ice
One man to show me the best part of life
Is that what you want
Yeah, that's what I need

A home and a family makes sense for us
A solid foundation built out of trust
Do you think you can find that with someone like me
Two arms to hold you, one place to be
Are just some of the things that a woman needs

Here's the one I rediscovered today:

Love Song by Elton John

"The words I have to say
May well be simple but they're true
Until you give your love
Theres nothing more that we can do

Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one could offer you more
Do you know what I mean?
Have your eyes really seen?

You say its very hard
To leave behind the life we knew
But theres no other way
And now its really up to you

Love is the key we must turn
Truth is the flame we must burn
Freedom the lesson we must learn
Do you know what I mean?
Have your eyes really seen?"

Wow. Imagine that - both of us rediscovering an Elton song the same day. Life is weird that way, isn't it?

Do you know if Bernie wrote those lyrics? They're very good.

Leslie Duncan wrote the music and lyrics.

I haven't played it since October Sad  In my random play on itunes today, it came up twice with no song in between.

Sometimes we need those little reminders of where we were, and where we are now, Liz.

Life is like that.

Certain songs bring back certain memory, help us to travel back in time ... down the memory lane .... with gentle nostalgia ...
