I saw it a few years ago... if memory serves, 'Pi' and 'Requiem for a Dream' came in a set.
As soon as I saw it, I thought 'Yeah... I know that' for most of his symptoms. But not the blood.

We watched this movie Pi a few months ago and it was discussed here, but not sure of a date. I remember saying that after watching it, that my wife Angie removed all power tools from our house! 
We mentioned the blood also and we thought it might be from all the different meds buddy was taking.
Very disturbing movie, but watched it all.
