Hi Helen....Welcome home. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Do you think a general would be subjected to that sort of "SUPPORT"?

Nearly 30,600 disability claims are pending for Iraq war veterans.

Local veterans administration office blames too many retirements for their inability to process claims.

"Support Our Troops" must only cover troops that haven't been damaged?

Helen, support our troops starts with those which we call "America Haters", and "Terrorist Lovers", and "Saddam Sympathizers".   Also known as the Democratic Party

I think a whole bunch of goverment big/wigs  both political parties need big pay and benefits cuts.Put that to the military hospitals , veterens administration and many other programs being cut .I watched  Bob woodruffs to Iraq and back special.Hard to watch the soldiers coming back with head injuries.Their families also have to deal with the loss of the loved one they know and help the loved one dealing with the head trauma.heres a link to some info.Bob and his wife also wrote a book. They say there are many soldiers that are getting head injuries that aren't as obvious so they are not being treated. The blast does all internal injuries that take longer to show symptoms.

Sorry, I guess sarcasm on the internet is not the same.

I was simply remarking about the irony of the situation with the current administration.  The term "Support the troops" has been used as a buzzword in a soundbyte society in an effort to drum up support for military action in Iraq.  Now that we have gotten past the soundbyte and are uncovering facts, it's very ironic.

Due to dial up, I'm unable to access the initial story here and due to wrong browser, Minnies links either but from her words quoted can get an idea of some facts known and neglected since WWII.

The thunderous concussion caused by high explosive bombs [even back in WWII] were designed not only to blow up buildings but to create shock waves of such power that all the internal organs that were filled with air -- the lungs, stomach, and the intestines, exploded.  Many corpses had no external wounds or damage in city bombings.  Windows can actually explode outward from blasts 100 yards away* even back then.
To not address internal injuries even now when we had designed bombs to do that a long time ago seems like knowingly avoiding what bombs are capable of doing.

Not to mention the careless disposal of degraded chemical weapons in Iraq, which can create delayed symptoms

During the Vietnam war, wounded soldiers from the Communist North Vietnam were frequently taken by boat to the sea and thrown overboard. Amazingly there were some survivors who were rescued by local fishermen who made it back to land and later told the story. They were told that they were being taken to China or Russia for rehabilitation while in fact they were being "disposed off".

Its the top people in power who were and are still committing such crime. They only cry "support our troops" when the troops are able to fight for their cause. There is no real support for the wounded and disabled.

I dont know how some people sleep at night, honestly!

Getting on the proverbial soapbox:

As a veteran (will be out of the military 15 years in September) of the 1st Gulf war I find this to be an absolute disgrace on a number of levels!!  I was a younger man (late teens) when I joined and many of my beliefs and views of the world and how it works were formed at that time. (young and impressionable)  The thing that doesn't waiver now or ever for me is the kindred I feel with those folks who are out there laying it all on the line. ( I support them 1000%)  In this situation, I often ask myself ...what is the reason??  I often wonder about the many young lives that have been lost or altered beyond measure ...  what might they have become had they been given the opportunity to grow into who they were supposed to be ....

The situation is a  shame and a disgrace to the service of those 'lucky folks' who survived and it is a dishonor to the memory of those who didn't ....

Sorry folks, putting the soapbox to the side  ... for now... Thanks for starting this thread Tony!

Sorry to hear Minnie.

No matter politics, we owe him and all the young men our thanks and respect.

It's such a mess but the troops are just fine. They are doing incredibly well with what they have. It would be nice if the old men in Washington had paid more attention to the military. Rants from podiums by men who never served don't win wars.

This is the first war that private contractors aren't taking their orders from the military as to what is  needed. That gets in the way of things, I guess. It's insane. They owe these young men bigtime.
