So, I'm in the middle of making dinner, and there is a knock at the door. I go to answer it, and there stands Jody's brother asking about getting Jody's things. Didn't say anything about my stuff, just wanted his brothers things. I told him the truth, that I sent Jody an email this fall requesting we set a time to exchange personal items, and I never heard anything from him. So after more time, I got rid of everything. I didn't owe him anymore free storage space for what few things he had here. Yes he had a good pool stick here too, but like everything else, it's no longer here.
After dinner I decided to go out and peek at the truck to make sure it was ok, no baseball bats to the windshield or anything and it's ok. But damn it all anyway...I don't have to keep his shit around here indefinately. I made the attempt to call him prior to the email but his phones went unansered untill they were disconnected altogether. Thats when I sent the email as a final attempt to get our things exchanged. That was back in August.
I made all attempts to contact where and how I could. So...am I right or am I wrong? I did all I needed to, and I had the right to finally get rid of his shit.

I've parted with lots of stuff, in fact learned to live with no more than what you can stuff in your car in the middle of the night and leave with when told to "get your shit and get out", oh, over a hundred times.

I just don't want that "wife" or whoever she is going psycho over it. I knew she has a few screws loose before.
To think he doesn't have the balls to face me with it himself. Why should he, after all?

I'd definitely keep a record of the times, dates and methods by which you tried to contact him to arrange to give him his stuff (ahem....even if you have to recreate it). That way, if he ever hires a lawyer to try and get remunerations for his crap that no longer exists, you can have something on which to fall back.

I had threatened I'd be making a report of theft, but I thought differently later and just tossed the crap and moved forward. That wan't untill Novenber, and I ended the relationship in mid June. That was plenty long enough.

When my ex-boyfriend broke up with me via email after not speaking to me for 3 days (wasn't he a mature 4th year medical student? hmpf...), I decided that if he wanted the couple of things he had here, first he'd have to ask me, and then he'd have to come get them in person. He was such an a$$ to break up with me in an email after we had been together for like 5 months, so I decided that if he wanted it back, then he'd have to face me in person. He never asked for the stuff, and I never mentioned it. I haven't thrown it out, though....one of the things he left was a book about cats that belongs to his best friend - and I know it was a well-loved book. I have kept it in good condition, and I will be more than happy to return it if he asks me. Until then, his loss....
I think you did the right thing!!
