WHAT IS LOVE ?

Love is all about meeting someones needs. Its essentially about survival. Without love there will be no life. All living things will die in the absence of love. The ultimate act of love is to give up ones own life for someones need. That is the love of God, the love of Jesus Christ. True love is the ability to meet higher needs as well as basic needs. Its above preservation of physical life itself. It is about giving life a quality. A life worth living is not about quantity but about quality. Basic love gives life, true love gives quality of life. Basic needs for survival are all physical. Its air, food, water and shelter. However, this is only enough for preservation of basic life, a life without cognitive development, a life without emotions, a life of an under developed animal. Basic needs for human survival are both mental and physical. Its firstly air, water, food and shelter and also love. Humans need love to survive. Its has been proven that a human child will not survive without love, even when physical needs are met. Love give quality of life, foremost in giving the meaning of life, that such life means something to someone. Love gives values to the human life. Life needs to be valued to have some sort of quality. The first love we experience in life is mothers love. Without mothers love, we will die. In an ideal situation, mother starts to preserve our lives firstly by carrying us in her womb, providing for our first set of basic needs: air, water, food and shelter. Within this love we grow, until our body reaches enough physical maturity to leave mothers body. From then on, on top of the basic physical need, we develop higher needs, starting with mental need. Again ideally, mother will be there to provide for this need until we reach enough mental maturity to leave her side. To be able to truly survive independently, one needs to reach both physical maturity as well as mental maturity. This is the minimum requisite for an independent life. The next step is the development of spiritual need. Achievement of the next step is the requisite for a truly happy and fulfilled life. The first and second stage is all about receiving love and the ability to secure that love. The last stage is about giving love and the ability to maintain that love. It requires the steps of initially being able to receive love, then the ability to love oneself which will result in the last step of being able to give love. Unfortunately, life is difficulty. Things are never ideal. For many what should happen never happened. The successtion of love that should occur step by step gets interrupted by various events, some of out of luck but most are out of ignorance. If one is lucky, one starts out with a good set of genes and a great pregnancy where nothing went wrong and one is born with the best physical health to start with. Then if one is even luckier, one will have a loving mother who will be there to provide both physical as well as mental care, with time this will see one grows into physical and mental maturity. The lucky person will then step into his own life with the ability to be self sufficient, with the ability to survive on his own. He will need to learn to love himself enough to ensure his own best survival condition. From this self love comes the ability to love others and the progression to attainment of spiritual growth. We first learn to love the person(s) who meet our needs. This love is reflex, its inborn and doesnt need to be learnt. Unless we is born with major mental retardation, we know how to love this way. Then we learn to love ourselves. This enable us to meet our own needs. This love has to be learnt. Not everyone knows or even able to love him or herself. Many consciously or subconsciously inflict damages after damages to themselves because they are unable to love themselves. This gives no quality to life. Lastly we learn to love others. This is the hardest love to learn. This is also the only way to attain true maturity and peace of mind as well as true happiness in life. So, love is the ability to first meet your own needs and ensure ones own survival, then love becomes the ability to meet someone else needs and ensuring someone else survival. Love goes the full circle of life. Love is then complete and fulfilled. Annette

I knew that answer when I met my first wife. It got a bit cloudy when I met my 2nd. After 10 years with my girlfriend, I have no fucking clue. But I do think God has made his/my wishes pretty clear. In December I thought hard about going east, even put in my 2-3 week notice which wasn't accepted. Now it's totally clear to me. Drop whatever I'm doing, and get my ass to N.C. to be with my father.

Dictionary.com says its: 1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. 2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend. If you want to see it, just watch two people who have been together most of their lives and still like each other.

| I did that. I put in the best description of myself and what my likes and dislikes are and what I want out of a partner and they were very quick to give me an answer. Now I have someone to walk with a few times a day and who even likes to fetch the ball. Still working on the hand shakes and rolling over tricks.

Annette, quite a post, wow. I love reading and wondering these kind of things and I have thought about love many, many times. Too bad this moment my words seem to fail me and I cannot write you a perfect reply. But, basically, I believe that it's hard to define love, it comes in so many forms.

| ah, eharmony: a place for normal, pretty, intelligent, witty women with good personalities to meet completely self-centered men, or dog-ugly men who want only gorgeous blonde amazons with huge breasts, or to not meet men because the ones there are shallow bastards....
