I thought only teenaged males do this:  challenge their strength to their fathers.

The daughter, who realized she now towers over me at her staggering height of 5'1, stated very emphatically, "I could so kick your ass". To which I replied, "you have lost your mind."

After several feeble attempts at bravado and much to her chagrin, she challenges me to arm wrestling.

Bad idea......................................for her.

While we laughed over the feigned challenge to my ultimate supremacy, she verbally continued to insinuate that she could "take me out", all the while knowing I am, and will always be, alpha female in our home. Especially when there is a pot of pork barbeque still on the stove. Cooled of course. But gooey and sloppy non-the-less. As her verbal gauntlet continued to be thrown down, I noticed that there was indeed a long handled spoon clearly laden with what could be quite a large projectile of barbeque. She in turn, noticed what caught my attention. The final challenge to my supremacy was her look ...........I dare you.................

*phwapppp!* is the sound that barbeque makes when it hits one's child squarely in the face. Blinking was no longer an option, as chunks of pulled pork barbeque glued her eyes shut.

Before I knew it, a hand shot around me and as I became nearly hysterical with laughter, the realization that still slightly warmed barbeque was being stuffed without the slightest hint of courtesy down the back of my jeans.

The dog was quite frightened. The husband was spellbound. Never had either seen such a battle...yet neither could turn away as pork became the weapon of choice for mother and daughter.

The outcome shall I just say was that the dog ate quite well off the floor and cabinets, the mother continues to hold title as champion of all parental challenges, and a newly found respect and lesson the daughter learned:

Never say "I could so kick your ass" to a mom with a spoonful of barbeque.

Jen I can soo see this playing out in my mind.  I hope you also made her clean up the mess too.

Next time tell her not to let her "John Wayne mouth get her Tweety Bird ass in trouble."   laugh
