Not my day at all.....

After two weeks of fighting a computer that wasn't working worth a darn, the computer man showed up (don't even get me started on that one). Well, it seems my hard drive is kuput. I lost a lot of stuff (of course I didn't have backups on all of it! - what a stupid question!) Now I've got to REINSTALL everything after I get my new harddrive. I've got a backup computer, but... don't have everything on it I need. Right now I'm shut down.  I did get all my tax stuff backed up (better than I did the LAST time this happened -- about four years ago).

Computers are wonderful when nothing goes wrong.  Right now I think I'll take an aspirin and lie down....  On second thought -- I think I'll fill the tub with bubbles and drown myself...

But ya'll have a nice day now ya hear.....

Hugs BD

If the computer is working but it looks like you are missing your stuff it is probably still there.
Let me explain, sometimes when windows has problems and you fix them the next time you log onto the system it doesn’t remember who you are so it creates a new what’s called a profile and that includes all the folders for your documents and pictures. So if you can get on the computer look on the C drive under Documents and Settings folder and you should see folders associated with whoever has logged on and should see your old login and under it find all your stuff, you can just copy from the old to the new once you have found it. Hope this helps.

Depending on what it's worth to you, it CAN be recovered, pretty much 100% for sure.  It just costs money.  I have done it many times, but I have had the resources and reasons to spend the money doing it.

Daniel said that when you have a hardrive failure, you usually dont lose too much, its usually programs that you lose, not informations such as files in your document folder. He has had 4 failures in the past and didnt lose much at all each time and he is not the type who does regular backing up either.

He also said that your computer man sounded like he was lazy and didnt try to do a good enough job to restore things for you. He probably just gave you an easy answer by saying that here is a new hard drive, go and reinstall everything, as its less work for him.

Anyone in your family knows about puter? Maybe you can ask them to have another look for you.

Its rather annoying though, not having a working puter.

Hugs to you.
