He's thinking simply this: the sheeple won't notice, and I can get away with it.

Wow, what a what are the odds, two politicians doing this. We have a spendthrift mayor in Detroit too, but blowing the whistle is dangerous and cost taxpayers $600,000 losing in the cover-up and several hundred thousand more in other lawsuits. Quote:The city of Detroit and the Detroit Police Department lost a whistleblower suit filed by Attorney Michael Stefani on behalf of a police department accountant. According to information received the accountant reportedly informed Mayor Kilpatrick of spending irregularities. |
| Quote:the firing of former Deputy Chief Gary Brown, the intimidation used on whistle blowing Officers Harold Nelthorpe and Walt Harris. |
| Gary Brown investigated the allegations. Just before testimony, the stripper to testify in city spent money on lavish parties turned up murdered. Quote:Lt. Al Bowman formerly of the Detroit Police homicide unit testified in court that he felt his life was in danger because of his investigation into the Tamara Greene murder case. |
| Attorney General Cox: Quote:But Rescue 4 discovered that Cox has been accused by state police of blocking them from the investigation and failing to question other potential witnesses. Rescue 4 also found that the meeting between Cox and the mayor was not recorded and Kilpatrick was not put under oath. State police investigators also said they were not invited in to ask questions. |
| What a coincidence. Quote:Michigan Atty Gen Mike Cox says he found no evidence of misconduct by Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his security staff. |
| And yes, the mayor was re-elected again after this. Murder, firings, demotions, transfers, many lost lawsuits, but his turning a new leaf campaign was a winner. another coincidence Quote:Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has made a formal request to get the file on the Tamara Greene case from Chief Bully-Cummings, which according to reports is missing. |

Try Sweden - new conservative govt. Prime Minister is in the s..t - his housemaid was an East European without a permit to work here - hid it by not paying tax on her wages. Called working black here. According to urban myth - another Minister was asked if his housekeeper was working black - his respone? No No - she's Finnish. Cheers Frank

| He probably could give a shit less what you think... and figures who needs to bother with accountability... after all as long as he's comfy, what else matters? I say... give them all minimum wage with no expense account.. with the possibility of a raise every six months based on their performance... oh and as far as a pension goes.... model it after the walmart pension for hourly workers. my 2 cents with warm regards, Tony

Boston cops making some money isn't a problem to me. Most of the higher pays are from private details paid for by commercial interests. The Govs $10.000.00 drapes come out tax payers pockets.

I'll gladly throw in our "Attorney General Retread" Governor, who, after excoriating new taxes when he first ran in 2002, just proposed a budget that calls for $1.7 billion in new taxes: The Democrat budget includes the following major tax and fee increases: Cigarette Tax increase - $550 million; Sick Tax through a new tax on health care providers - $400 million; Property Tax Increase - $350 million; Gas Tax increase through a new tax on gasoline production - $270 million; Home Tax increase through a doubling of the real estate transfer fee - $140 million; $10 Drivers License Fee Increase - $22 million; $75 increase in the nursing home bed tax; $20 increase in vehicle registration fees; Tourism Tax through a new $13 tax per car on cars rented in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel also notes: Handing the Legislature his two-year budget, the governor also called for a $20 increase in the annual car registration fee. The 36% boost would bring it from $55 to $75. In his re-election campaign last year, he said he supported an increase of about $10. The biggest single increase ever in vehicle registration fees, it would cost Wisconsin drivers about $170 million more over the next two years. Doyle's budget would add - not cut - workers. Of 791 new workers, 120 would monitor sex offenders who must be tracked by global positioning monitors. When he ran for governor in 2002, the Democrat said he would try to cut 10,000 state jobs by 2010. But that push has stalled because of public safety needs and federal mandates, officials said. Aides said the budget makes good on a campaign promise to not raise general sales or income taxes. Yeah, right. In case you are following along at home, here's the summary: TAX INCREASES: -- Raise the per-pack tax on cigarettes from $1.25 to $2.02. -- Raise vehicle registration fees by $20, to $75, and driver's license fees by $10, to $34. -- Allow property taxes to go up as much as 4 percent, double the two-year cap that expired in January. That would result in an estimated tax increase on a median-valued home of $75, or 2.7 percent. The tax bill on such a home was $2,730 last year. -- Impose a new hospital tax of 1 percent of gross revenue. -- Increase the nursing home bed tax from $75 a month for each bed to $125 a month. -- Increase the real estate transfer tax from $3 to $5 per $1,000 of sale price, increasing the tax on a $166,000 house from $498 to $830. The scary thing is that the people of this state re-elected him. I'm coming close to packing my bags.
