Eli, who's 3, loves to take pictures. He likes the digital cameras with the LCD screens that show what it's taking a picture of. Thing is, to buy them in the store cost about $60. Well, beings I am an eBay freak, I bought him one for $26.00 (1.3mp, 8mb internal memory which is enough to store 80 pics, price includes shipping). Only thing is... it's pink and it's called a "Glitz and Glitter" digital camera. It also comes with oodles of rhinestone & glitter stickers!! Ain't I just horrible?? I figure hey, he's only 3 and so what if it's pink?? At least it's a digital camera with an LCD pic screen AND a flash! LOL

In ten years he'll be horrified . . . . But at 3 who cares? Nurture those creative urges early - he could be the next Ansel Adams! If nothing else he'll have a great cocktail party story when he's your age, or great fodder for a therapist!

Mel, you're a wonderful mother! I bet your son is far too busy to take pictures to notice that color. Besides, I happen to know a man in his 20s who WEARS pink clothes (and is 100 percent streight in case the fellows in here are thinking otherwise ). Hugs, Sanna

Boys can grow up and out of things real quick when playing with the guys. I remember first riding a bike and wanted to ride with the bigger guys. Mom said, "take your sister's bike". Yeah, met the guys ribbing and was back home in 20 minutes throwing that sissy girl's bike on the ground. Got my own bike!

omg... I'd never make my boy carry a pink *anything* unless he asked for it... 3 year olds (the other ones) can be the most horrible things when it comes to making someone feel bad for standing out. I remember even parents saying things about other boys who were carrying 'girlie' stuff around. Seriously... the fact that those people SUCK doesn't change the facts.

Well, I showed Eli the pink camera and he said he likes it, so that's good! Besides, any other kid teases him about it and they'll be sorry they ever opened their mouth.

Maybe he'll become a fashion photographer someday taking pictures of almost nude women on a caribbean beach. Doesn't matter what color the camera is as long as he likes it. He's a lucky kid to have you as a mom!

Just wondering , would you think twice about giving a girl a blue or black camera ? I wouldnt. Why is it that we tend to get paranoid about giving boys pink things? Is it our own attitude thats shaping our society ? Sorry guys, just got philosophical all of a sudden! Quick, where are my pink PJ and pink slippers ... Annette

LMAO Eric!!!!!!!! Annette, I thought about it once and decided to get it for him anyway. I just thought it funny as so many people freak out about giving boys "pink" things or dolls to play with. I have never had a problem letting my boy figure out what he likes and doesn't like.

I must be behind the curtain too... Do you like it on a boat? Do you like it with a goat? (don't answer that) Or how about pink champagne? Would you like it on a train? On a plane? With a glass? Or while riding on an ass? (don't answer that one either)

| I don't worry about my kids now (boy 16, girl 14)... they are old enough to think about those things for themselves. The problem is when kids are really young, they don't understand *why* the rotten kids would pick on the other kids for standing out. I don't care if you're talking about a boy kid carrying a pink purse or a big purple dinosaur... I can't make the rotten kids be nice and I don't feel like putting my kid out there as bait. All I'm saying is, why make it harder than it has to be? With the kids I saw and the way they acted, I would have rather not made my boy walk around with a pink camera. edited to add: I don't think Mellisa did anything wrong at all, everybody is in a different situation

I actually bought Edwyn, my older boy, a big fluffy pink elephant when he was about 4 because he had really wanted it. He liked it so much that he carried it around everywhere he went. When he got stares or smart comments from other kids, I just told him that they were jealous because they didnt have one. He was very happy with that answer and proudly walked around clutching his pink elephant. Now that he is 11 and with a orange Taekwondo belt and a few gold medals up his sleeves, he doesnt seem to be bothered by stares or smart comments any more. Funnily though, he doesnt particularly like pink elephants much either. Annette

Funny how kids are all different. El's a young woman of course, and very happy to be one, but all the time she was small she would never own or carry anything pink, and vehemently refused to wear pink clothing. Still nothing pink in her wardrobe, I notice. And it's a damned big wardrobe too. .....Girls...... Best, George
