A Culinary Peculiarity in Oz

Perhaps one of our Antipodean friends could enlighten me. I was listening to the radio in the car this morning, and a segment came on discussing things people consume in Oz. Vegemite, and etc. One of the items mentioned was a popular flavor of Life Savers that we don't have here--musk. The flavor has been compared to licking women's stick deoderant. Is this really true? Do Australians really have musk-flavored Life Savers? I know they have sparkling Shiraz--which must be a acquired taste, because I wasn't able to acquire it when I tasted it. (I like Aussie beer, though.) Best, George

Musk flavored lifesavers....Bleugh. Sounded like a con on the level with Pet Rocks and Mood Rings. Unreal. WTF were they thinking about? Charlie

Now if we were talking about Cherry Ripe, I would pay good money to get my hands on a few of those! Oh - and Cadbury Crunchie bars! Canada, the UK, and Oz has them but we can't get them . . . . Yum!

Don't know about musk flavored Life Savers but in Lebanon you can buy chewing gum that tastes like juniper berries. Gin flavored chewing gum...who woulda thunk -P.

I love Musk Lifesavers. You can also get Musk Sticks which are a soft lolly. Also you used to be able to get false teeth shaped lollies of which the pink part was musk flavoured. All very yummy.

Guaranteed to put hairs on your chest - http://australian-food.com/lollies/life_savers.html And I haven't eaten Vegemite since this morning, even though it's now owned by an American company.

I've never heard of musk flavored Life Savers. Sounds terrible. A few nights ago on the Discovery Channel program How It's Made was Jelly Bellys. They have (had) vomit flavor and ear wax flavor. Mmmmm...yummy

The one thing that always come to mind when thinking about Oz and their foods, spirits, is the hamburgers I had when I was lucky enough to visit Perth and Brisbane. The bread tasted sweeter than what we get here in the U.S., are your buns made of sweet bread? Anyone for some fumunda cheese??

| They are the producer of the Famed "Berty Botts Every Flavor Beans." of Harry Potter Fame. It's only fitting they made those as well, along with the grass flavor, and dirt flavor ones. My favorite Jelly Belly's is the buttered popcorn and Root Beer float....when I eat them that is. I seldom eat candy.
