Tax people.....advice please?

How can I be getting a pretty tax refund from Federal, but...for the first time ever, it states that I didn't qualify for Homestead tax credit, and I actually OWE into the state? Since it's already e-filed, can I take my W2's in and the print outs from the online fileing I just did and have a tax person review and file an ammended form if indeed the State forms are somehow wrong? I couldn't have made too much last year to owe that much in state tax. (over $500.00)

Sorry Pegg, i dont know much about your state's tax credits. But, yes, you can definately take your W-2s and whatnot to a tax preparer like H&R Block. They can answer questions you might have abd if need be, file an ammended return. Party on B$

That's actually pretty typical in Wisconsin, Pegg. There have been many years where my Wisconsin tax was higher than my Federal tax.

Pegg My best tax advice is take your stuff to an "Independent" tax preparer (not one of the chains) and have them look it over. They'll take more time and ask more questions. And they can usually offer some advice to get the taxes down. If there is a mistake an amended return can be filed. Hugs BD

Well, I got an email that my first round of filing was rejected, because stupid me, I transposed some of the numbers in Meg's SS# for the deduction. So I filed the federal, and this time I unchecked the state return, so I can take that paperwork in and file that stand alone, and no need for an ammended. I sure hope I can get to the bottom of this.

You probably made too much money to qualify for the homestead relief credit. That should be a good thing, right? Well, let me be the first to congratulate you!

If you want, bring it along this weekend. I'll take a look at it. (May as well put that first degree in Accounting to use!)
