I hate it, I live here in CA and even though I am in Northern CA, I see it every day. All the bilingual stuff in the stores and the signs and any paperwork you get, and half the time when you go into a store and need to ask a question, the employee looks at you like you are speaking a foreign language, I can’t tell you how pissed that makes me. What burns me up more is the fact that this is usually a teenager that was born here but who’s parents snuck in and never took the time to learn the language or cared to and so there kids who were born here still do not speak the language and can’t pass a stupid test that my daughter passed as a freshmen to graduate high school. You would need to live in CA to know what it is like, my town is turning into Mexico and fast, I just can’t figure out how they can afford it, crap my little 980 sqft’ house is worth 800k so how many low paying jobs would it take to make a mortgage payment or hell the rent when a studio apartment goes for like $1200 a month? Sorry got off on a rant, I just hate being treated like I don’t belong in my own town that I grew up in. I am tired of seeing Mexican flags in front of houses and on the hoods of cars, hell if they are so proud of being Mexican then why did they come to America in the first place? And if their country was so bad that they had to leave then why are they trying to turn ours into what they left? Oops there I went again. Matt

I will say that countries that speak English or have adopted it have done pretty damned well over time. I have this old guy attitude that it's not a good idea to rock the boat on this one. Italians and Swedes in my town had no choice and I think it worked out just fine. It looks like the new immigrants are trying to do it differently. My guess is that it won't work very well. In our case, I believe that English has more than a lot to do with our success. It's not too much to ask to play along....don't you think? Flog me now. Charlie, the slow learner.
