My "new" car got rearended...

then I spent the night in the ER. I have a minor spine/neck injury. And it triggered one of the worst headaches I have had in a LONG time. Sam was actually home at a normal hour yesterday and the kids and I had been looking forward to spending some time with him all day! So we went to Chili's for dinner, and then started shopping around for a laptop. As we are pulling out of staples parking lot, the light turned green and the guy in front of us suddenly slowed down, so Sam downshifted. It wasn't a really fast sudden stop cause we were just barely gaining speed to pull out. Well when he downshifted the guy behind us SLAMMED into the rear of my new car! I checked the kids immediately and the kids were fine, just a bit shook up. Well Sam gets out of the car to see the damage. Then I followed suit after I reinsured the kids were fine. The guy (in a little pickup) starts screaming that he has had a bad day and we don't want to f#ck with him. Then the guys start arguing, so I kinda got in the middle.... not close enough to be in the pickup guys reach and ask if he has insurance. He says yes but he didn't have it on him, yeah right. So I say ok, the give me your name number, etc etc. Then the guy starts screaming at me, and Sam starts going towards the guy... still not in eachothers faces or anything. And the guy threatens Sam with his tools, I guess likehe was going to beat him with them. I then grab the cell phone to call 911. The guy then jumps back in his truck, whips around us, almost hits my door, and is gone. I quickly jotted down the plate # before he was outta site There was another car that witnessed the whole thing and actually got to the police station before us to make a statement on our behalf. When we talked to the police, they had already ran his plate and went to his house, where his truck was but he had switched vehicles and was gone. I now have such horrible pain inmy neck, upper and lower back. But mostly my upper back and neck. The doc at the ER said I am going to be hurting much worse today, and she is afraid it's going to be a huge trigger for my CH. So far she is right, maybe it's the stress and all from it, but I have been just about dying in pain all night from hit after hit and the muscle pain.

Aww.. I am so sorry...it sucks when people dont take responsibility for thier stupidness...especially because you had kids in the car! I think the guy better consider himself VERY lucky that Sam didnt beat his ass when he started runnin his mouth at you! I hope you start to feel better & that he is caught & charged..but especially hope that the HA's dont come on from the impact. Much Love Shari

Sorry for what happened to you and hope you feel better. That a-hole must have some serious issues to do what he did but whatever it is he just made things a whole lot worse. Did he not even care about the children? Barry

Yeah that's pretty crappy, to hit a car with kids, then scare them even more by behaving like that! Ty guys. I don't have insurance, not required here, wish I had it though! A little late to change that. This is our only vehicle, other than Sam's work van. So fingers crossed that it's "just" cosmetic. We were supposed to be driving down to FL in 6 days!

Yikes. Glad you and yours are okay but what a mess. Seriously, this guy is poster boy for Rectal Apertures. Just what does he think will happen leaving the scene? Maybe he has a warrant or something. Damn sucks about your car.... Charlie

I don't know about damage ... at the time she said I should heal in a week - 2 tops but to come back to the ER if there are any changes. As of today my neck, shoulders, upper back hurt with an occasional shooting style pain down my right arm into my last 2 fingers. My center back feels ok, but starting at my lower back into my rear hurts now too. I haven't gone back to the ER cause I don't have insurance (well I have a 300 a month deductable ) and so far the police haven't gotten back in touch with us and we keep getting an answering service at the station. Small town and the cops are only on call on the weekends. I think I'm going to have to eat the whole cost.

a bummer indeed... Mean people usually suck out loud. However, I applaud Sam for avoiding physical contact, I grieve that you now suffer painfull injuries, and I "Advise" that next time this sort of things happen, you call the law offices of Smith & Wesson... (disclaimer: had you done this, the guy still would have hit & run but he would also had a WHOLE lot less complaining about how crappy HIS day had been prior to the accident... odds? 98-120% ) Hope you get at least a little chuckle from my musings, Ramon
