I think it was back in the mid 80's. If I remember correctly I believe the Def Leppard drummber played drums with his feet. What people can do when they are inspired. Definietly a testomony of willpower and strength. Thanks for sharring.

Nice! Will power is incredible. I was able to witness this kind of determination in my father. He had both of his legs amputated way above the knees when he was around 55 or 56, due to Arterial Sclerosis (sp). The amputations were up high enough that made it near impossible to wear prosthetic legs. This was way back in the late sixties and they didn't have the same technology as today. Or if they did... he couldn't afford it. For one reason or another he was plagued with severe phantom pains that would leave him screaming, he would describe it feeling as though someone was smashing his toes with a hammer. They weren't constant but there were many nights we would be awakened by the blood curdling screams of pain. Having us witness this mortified my dad. He never complained EVER. Once he got used to being in a wheel chair he'd never let anything get in his way. I remember going back home to visit this one time... I wanted to surprise my parents. I arrived to find my father sitting on a make-shift scaffold that he built and placed on the kitchen table. He was painting the ceiling. (He was stubborn and hated paint rollers, so it had to be done with a brush.) Of course I wanted to help him and by trying he became highly insulted. He never wanted anyones help as he didn't consider himself handicapped. "Just shorter." My dad's been gone now for 20 some years but each and every time I get a severe hit and even think of giving up... all I have to do is think of him. with warm regards, Tony

I've read about the 'phantom limb' syndrome and it sounds like a very wicked condition. It sounds like your father was as stubborn and determined as mine. We had a housefire when I was 15 and my dad sustained first and second degree burns on his hands and arms - but had the fire OUT before the fire department arrived. He refused anything for pain and would only take aspirin. Peace, Carl D

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Bass Player Magazine did an article on him a few months back, apparently he lost his arm in an industrial accident, and he had so much time off work, he picked up an instrument...and he picked it up fast!
