My boyfriend and I were discussing what you guys call this particular kind of meat: Do you call it mince meat? Or hamburger meat? or what? Curious minds want to know! Hugs, Sanna

Michael, you are my friend. But you know what, we eat our meat and talk about it and food in general a lot. I asked this Q because my boyfriend had heard that Americans refer that kind of meat as hamburger meat. The schools in here teach that we should call that meat mince meat, so naturally we wanted to know what is the correct term to use. Pf days, Sanna

It looks good all on its own! Spread that on some rye bread, add a few onions and some salt and pepper. Raw beef and onions. (It's a Wisconsin thing) or Steak Tartar as the rich people call it Just make sure its ground round with very little fat. Jimmers

Mince meat (or minced meat) is mostly fruit - apples, raisins, dates, etc.. It is baked into pies or other delicacies. Some minced meat products contain a little beef, but very little. The term minced meat is very idiomatic. Do you make hot blueberry soup in Finland? Ground beef or hamburger is what you have in the picture.

I would just call it "Ground Meat" as it could be the ground flesh from any number of once living creatures. with warm regards, Tony

Ground beef! Generally, round steak is ground up, so it can be formed into patties, for hanburgers, or, perhaps meatballs or meat loaf. Steak tartare uses a MUCH better quality of beef, generally a sirloin, for the very smallest amount of fat content. You CAN use turkey ground in the same manner, and we call it ground turkey. Sooo(long winded me)....any meat that is put through a grinder is called ground meat. You can replace the word meat with the KIND of meat being used....... But, before the boyz get to this....ground CAT is NOT acceptable.got it?? LOL! Cathi oh, and Floridian is right on as usual, mincemeat is an interesting concoction of suet and fruits, mincemeat pie is still somewhat popular at Thanksgiving....and I think it sux! one woman's opinion!

Actually we call it mince here or just minced beef, pork, lamb or whatever dead animal it is! Flo and Cathy are right though in that "mincemeat" is completely different and total scrumptious - and doesn't contain meat at all! In fact, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without mince pies and brandy butter
