Looters plunder grounded ship....

Branscombe - Scavengers scrambled to the shore here on Monday to plunder whatever loot they could from the washed-up cargo of a beached freighter - grabbing everything from BMW motorbikes to nappies. Hordes of locals and others from further afield descended on the beach at Branscombe on the southwest English coast to pilfer from containers which have reached dry land from the stricken MSC Napoli cargo ship. Has anyone heard from Helen and the rest of our Brits??? I need a new toaster!

A new broom? Sacriledge! I'm sticking to "Old faithful" Nice to see traditional pastimes of wrecking and smuggling are still alive in the county my dear old Daddy is from (Devon) Hmm.. it was an Italian ship wasn't it? Wonder if they have a couple of crates of Amaretto for me?! I'm pretty damn sure I don't want anything to do with nappies, I've done my bit for Queen and Country LOL

| Long tradition of salvaging on some British coasts.... Reminds me of the 1949 film, "Whisky Galore": "Plot Summary for Whisky Galore! (1949) Based on a true story. The name of the real ship, that sunk Feb 5 1941 - during WWII - was S/S Politician. Having left Liverpool two days earlier, heading for Jamaica, it sank outside Eriskay, The Outer Hebrides, Scotland, in bad weather, containing 250,000 bottles of whisky. The locals gathered as many bottles as they could, before the proper authorities arrived, and even today, bottles are found in the sand or in the sea every other year. When 50,000 cases of whisky are stranded on a ship which runs aground, the inhabitants of a Scottish island cannot resist the temptation. Unfortunately, a Home Guard captain (an Englishman) stands in their way." It's a pretty funny movie, even if it's not a deathless classic. Best, George

George you can buy blended whiskey here with whiskey from "The Politician" which was the rea ship the film was based on. I liked that film, it was good entertainment. Devon and Cornwall was more the setting for Jamica Inn and a couple of films with Stewart Grainger I remember.. damn he was gorgeous back then too!

Are we even certain it was an Italian or English registry?? I submit it was Chewy, in the pilfered OUCH yacht, on yet another pleasure trip, but he has no navigational skills..which is why he visits Lost Wages every year, rather than travel anywhere else..after 40 some-odd years, he doesnt get lost in Lost Wages, however, being bold, he attempted to cross the pond, bumped into Italy, bounced off, and, there you have it! It is Chewy, in the OUCH yacht, in England.... still and all, why the nappies????? Noone will know... noone will know............. Cathi

Do you all know what seaman is?? It's what comes out of a Petty Officers d_ck! Don't bug Chewy if he's at his computer in a tight shirt and a square black wig telling his pooch how awfull that last bark was.
