This may sound a little weird, Done that many times and at least for me this works. Heating pad for about a hour, then hot bath as hot as you can stand. lets the muscles relax. Lay flat on your back and twist left then right as hard as you can. then stretch out straight as far as you can. then lay down and relax for about 10 min or so. stand up put your heels against the wall and reach for your toes. do this kind of fast, but be careful its easy to fall when your heels are against the wall like that. Hope that helps. Mike

I have found a visit to the chiropractor followed by alternating periods of heat and cold (20 minutes each) for a couple of days. Ibuprofen, too.

Yorky, before I blew out my back completely Jonny's method is the one that worked for me. If you have tweaked it bad enough the only quick cure is to get to an ortho and beg for a lumbar injection. If you have screwed the pooch bad enough to need the injection (usually done in a series of 3) then you had best find someone else to finish that and the next few jobs for you. Best of luck......Tim

Go for the muscle relaxers big time ! Kickin down on a shovel used to mess with my back too.. i used to have crippling back probs in my 20's and early 30's and my Dr told me to workout with free weights every other day.... i thought he was nuts but i havent had a back prob in over 15 years... he said you generate your power from your mid-section and as long as your workin out semi-hard you strengthen your stomach.... and a 6er never loox bad. Helps my skatin too as when i slam it dont hurt as bad with a lil muscle cushionin the fall.... Good luck bro !

Sorry you are hurting Yorks. 800 mg of motrin to start and then 400-600 mg 2x a day for a couple of days. A real hot shower while stretching helps too. Wish you luck Bro- -P.

Sit on the floor, a soft one. Pull your knees up to your chest and wrap your arms around the legs and squeeze, hold a few seconds and release a few times to stretch the back muscles. Don't let go, yet. Rock, or fall, backwards and rock back and forth 5 or 7 times and roll back on to your butt. Don't let go yet. Squeeze your legs a few times to stretch your back muscles again. Repeat 2 or 3 times a day, as needed.

DON'T FORGET PERIODS OF ICE DURING THE FIRST 24 HOURS! It reduces inflammation greatly, and I guarantee you won't be sorry.

More than likely you have pulled a muscle. Ice and heat are good. After the first 24-48 hours use heat exclusively. Any anti-inflammatory works and in twice the otc ratio Eat with them though, they can cause stomach lining holes. Free weights and stomach excersise is the best way to avoid all of this. Heal up and build your core so it can take the stress. IMO

| Hell if I did Ghosts thing I would be unconcious on the floor in a pool of blood from breaking my face I know there are lots of opinions but really the cold/hot switchero thing is what used to help me get back to being on the wrong end of a shovel ....tim

Yorky, I had bulging discs in the lower part of my back and my husband just had them operated on in the upper part of his neck. The best remedy I can prescribe to you from experience would be ICE, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for as long as you can keep the pack frozen and ice cold. Wrap a thin towel around it (I usually used a kitchen towel) to lessen the frostbite. My saving grace was surgery. I became laid up for 6 months delaying as it got worse. Maybe you should see a doctor and get an MRI done to see what's going on in there. I don't suggest a chiropractor, but then again I don't know what your diagnosis is, if it's a disc or if it's just pain. Anyway, hope that helps! Toni

I heard there is a miracle Chiropractor in Minnesota. If you need his name, check the meds board. Sorry I can't be of any more help.
