Yesterday was James Brown, Today a president... They say it always happens in 3's so who's next?

I'll always like the guy, he was the first President to send me, a big nobody in about '76, a $75.00 check for a tax rebate he distributed to the whole nation. Coolest thing I ever got from the government up to that time and altered my attitude about thinking differently about the men in charge. Good guy!
But I wouldn't watch him golf without a hardhat.

plus he was the only president in my lifetime that wasn't elected. (or up for election.) [he was appointed vice president after Spiro Agnew resigned over tax issues and became pres after Nixon did his tricks.]

In actuality he was an all american scholar athlete.
A 2 way center on 2 national championship Michigan footbal teams.
He chose Yale Law School over going into the NFL.

Well known here in MI he was very adept and accomplished. The fact though he was un-elected and beaned a few people while golfing made steady comedic opportunities for Johnny Carson too.

He pardoned Tricky Dick, but I forgive him. His reasons for doing so were well-intended--even if it did, in part, cost him the next election. I also don't think Ford had much of a chance at election anyway--a lot of people didn't care to have an appointed president in office, no matter what his party affiliation was.
That's my recollection, anyway.

I think so the country could move on. Nixon was out of office - while the idea of justice and making an example out of him has a logic, so did moving on.

I liked President Ford. He was well spoken, seemed to me, at least, that he really tried, and wanted to make things better for all of us after the Nixon fiasco, and, because he was human, not some self-appointed god or emperor. He was a clutz, and I loved him for it. Appointed or elected didn't matter to me.
And, yes, he did give us Betty and her clinic. She was one of the first of the "well known" (not necessarily celebrity) who went public with her addictions. Because of that, and her start of the Betty Ford Clinic, thousands of people, besides just the stars have benefitted from it. There are now many more clinics just like it around the world that are helping people - so, to Betty, my sincere condolences on the loss of a fine man, and thank you for what you have done as well.

Ford was the right man at the right time. First Presidential candidate I voted for......drove home from college to do it. I believe he was one of the good guys.....something we don't see much of now.
