Guilty Mom Syndrom...is there a cure?
« on: Dec 19th, 2006, 7:52pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Two nights in a row, there are concerts for the kids for school.  Went last night for Megs, though my head wasn't in the greatest of shape.  Today at work we had a big holiday pot luck, and something didn't sit well.  I've been on the john every 15 minutes like clockwork, and cramps so bad I'm doubled over.  I call Dylan to let him know I won't be able to make it, and his heart is broken.  Now I feel like a total heel.

Is there a cure for this guilty Mother thing?  Or am I just shite out of luck?

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

LIfe's not perfect... you get sick, you have to call off planned things .. guilt is for the faint-hearted.

Being serious - I know how you feel and have been there too when mine was small. With my Caleb, I just don't promise until the last minute. He knows Granny has headaches and sometimes can't do things with him that she'd like to do. We just make up for it somewhere else.

When I was much younger, I kept promising my nephew that I'd go camping with him over the Easter Holidays. For two years something happened and I didn't make it. The thrid year I finally told him that REGARDLESS of what happened I'd be there. And I was -- three days after surgery and still hurting like a son of a gun. Most miserable Easter I ever spent, but that was one happy kid, so it was worth it. I did decline the boat ride.

Sorry there's no hard rule for Mom's guilt trips....

How about at 15 & 18 it doesn't matter.  I thought I would never get over the guilt, but really let it go.  You can only do what you can only do and your kids WILL survive.  They know in your heart you'd be there if you could.  Don't kill yourself over it.

Hope you feel better!  Wendy

If that was the kids mother, she should have her head examined. If my kid was screaming like that, I would have at least made sure that he was OK, and for her to laugh while he was complaining of being in pain and looking like he was being strangled, she needs to be slapped.

Just one dad's opinion.

Pack your bags, Pegg, you're going on a guilt trip!
Would he have preferred you....ahh......let loose at his concert, in the confines of,...what?? The school gymnasium?
In front of all his friends?? And all their parents?? I think not. And, what of him? What if he had been the one who was sick? Would he have attended this concert?
There's only one cure for this syndrome, and that is time. Dana is 32, Todd is 30 and we are fine now, I'm thrilled to say! They've even forgiven Gil and I for chaperoning the Jr/SR prom, and, Saints preserve us!!!!!!!  OMG! We danced together!!!!  They were both in attendance, and for some odd reason, mortified! So, after 14 yrs or so, we have even gotten over that.
Seriously, I'll just bet you feel worse than he does.....and, sick is sick.
I hope your Christmas is filled with happiness with your family.
