OK You LINUX Freaks!

I finally broke down and made one of my machines a Linux machine. When my youngest graduated from UCSD last summer and moved to NY, she gave me back my old PC. A couple weeks ago I set it up with a KVM switch so I could go back and forth between the two PC's. Figured I'd use the old machine for web surfing & e-mail and keep my good one off the web so it was not vulnerable. Well the old machine crashed last weekend (thanks MS). This morning I Fdisk'ed it and installed Linspire 5.0. This is WAY COOL! Easier install than XP, recognized all my periferals and printers, no problemo! I think I'm gonna like this. Now to find that penguin picture.

I did. Logged in using your info and saw all the buttons. Must be operator problems! I really don't know why you don't see them on your PC. You're still listed as an Administrator and I really did see all the buttons when I logged in with your info.

May go that route Kirk. For now, my brother gave me a ripped copy of Linspire so that's what I went with. So far I'm only have problems adding other users. They show up on the log-in page but when clicked on the system freezes at the Linspire page. No desktop loads. Probably just need to add them to the right group.

I would say that the add user program isn't adding home directorys for the new users. I think it is funny when people install lindows/linspire/freespire and say how fast it is. I just tested freespire again and found it dog slow as ever. They must be comparing it to windows in speed while I compare it to slackware. There is no reason to rip linspire anymore, the free version freespire has almost everything linspire has and I believe click-n-run is free now too. http://freespire.org/ Paul

It's as slow if not slower than XP to boot up. I'll hold off on judgin the applications until I've played with them more. I'm running it on an old 1.3gig P4 with 256MB RAM. My good machine is a 3.4gig P4-HT with 1gig RAM.
