and the very nicest people who talk funny too. I do believe that the smilie on the left of Charlies smiles pic is an export from the US. Broomie that pic of John BB's is of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco, California. He works there..no on it. He is certifable as some of his pics suggest.

| In your case - we're gonna whup your a$$ with a frozen hockey stick! The rest of you can relax - it's not our intent to take over - we'd have to share our Canadian beer and that's not gonna happen anytime soon. You guys couldn't handle it!

Blame Canada Times have changed, our kids are getting worse They won't obey their parents they just wan't to fart and curse Should we blame the government? Or blame society? Or should we blame the images on TV? No, blame Canada, blame Canada With all their beedy little eyes have packed their heads o full of lies, blame Canada, blame Canada, we need to form a full assault its Canada's fault Don't blame me for my son Stan, he saw the darn cartoon and now he's off to join the klan And my boy Eric once had my picture on his shelf but now when I see him he tells me to fuck myself (so muCH for the censors!) Well? Blame Canada, blame Canada, it seems that everything's gone wrong since Canada came along, blame Canada, blame Canada They're not even a real country anyway. My son could have been a doctor or a lawyer; rich and true instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbeque Should we blame the matches? Should we blame the fire? Or the doctors who allowed him to expire Heck no, blame Canada, blame Canada, with all their hockey hollabaloo And that bitch Ann Murray too Blame Canada, shame on Canada, for the smut we must stuff the trash we must stash the laughter and fuck must all be undone we must blame them the cause of the fuss before somebody thinks of blaming us (from South Park's Bigger, Longer, & Uncut)

| The dictionary senses given for this now rather rare word hardly do justice to a slang term that has had several meanings. Its origins lie in the eighteenth century in Britain, though where its first users got it from remains a mystery. The experts hazard a guess that it was probably a fanciful conflation—suggestions include stifle + suffocate and spill + castigate. You can spell it with one f or two, as the fancy takes you, though when it first appeared it had only one. Over half a century, it rapidly developed from its initial sense of “confound, silence or dumbfound”, through “handle roughly or treat severely”, to “crush, destroy or kill”. T W E Holdsworth borrowed the last of these in Campaign of the Indus of 1840: “Of the enemy, about 500 were killed, and more than 1500 made prisoners; and of the remainder, who made their escape over the walls, the greater part were cut down by the Dragoons, or spifflicated by the Lancers.” Despite these gory associations, by about 1900 it had softened in Britain into a jokey term for some unspecified but vaguely unpleasant punishment with which one might threaten a naughty child (“I’ll spifflicate you if you won’t be quiet!”. In America at around the same date, the word took on another sense still, that of being drunk. An early example is from the sporting section of the Washington Post of July 1904: “They forced his teeth open, and, while a couple of them sat on his chest, they poured about a quart of corn liquor into his system. He was so spifflicated before they let him up that they had to lift him bodily and plant him in a seat.” World Wide Words is copyright © Michael Quinion, 1996–2006.

Helen comes up with at least 3 or 4 words every day that we in the US have never heard of before. I shudder to think of the band-width that might be used up if someone posted the history and meaning of each of them.
