Unless you are already a subscriber to Men's Health, the article is pretty much a bust.  Out of all of the information I gave the writer, they only chose to use one sentence.  The rest of the CH info is the same tired old stuff we have all read.  To say the least I am very disappointed and will be writing a letter to the magazine.  I guess it's my fault for assuming some one was actually listening.

You can read it while you're in the check out line at the grocery store, they literally used one sentence of my interview.  I wasn't kidding.

To post it here, would take it out of context and make even look worse than it actually was.

Besides writing to the magazine (letter to the editor) maybe we can identify it's parent Co.   and other mags within this Co. and write letters  to them as well,   to express our complete disgust at the treament given to your interview and it's content.  (or lack there-of)

While the other mag's may not print the letter, it may bring additional attention within the organization to get a review.

I know how many hours and how much 'heart' you put into this.

Not one word, but the writer told me it would be pretty hard to get that in there, as that would be like advertising, and you know how that goes........  Roll Eyes  But I definately did try.

An unofficial, personal response to the editors for a start:

Quote:
The segment on Cluster Headache in the article "Beat The Brain Pain" is weak to say the least.  Not enough symptoms were listed for a person to get a true idea of whether or not they may have clusters.  It also only listed abortive options without stating the true objective of treatment which is prevention.  There are non-profit patient advocacy organizations which exist to help sufferers get the proper information on symptoms and treatment, such as the Organization for Understanding Cluster Headaches (OUCH).  If your magazine is truly interested in helping it's readers, why were none listed? In short, the way the article is written does more to make fun of headache than to draw attention to the true magnitude of the problem or to offer any serious help.  I'm glad I am not a subscriber, because I would be canceling my subscription at this point.

That's what I mean, BB.  the article is 3 internet pags of crap.

Quote:
Silver lining: A study recently published in the journal Headache reveals that one by-product of having a superexcitable nervous system is a sex drive 20 percent higher than other men's.

Woo Hoo!  I want Migraines!  NOT.

The whole thing is so tongue in cheek you expect to see LOL, HAHAHA and Grin after every third sentence.  It's a joke and not much help to someone who suffers from any of the headaches mentioned, least of all clusters.

Angry That bites bigtime!

I just sent in my letter to the editor:

Dear Men's Health,
I was excited to learn that your magazine was doing an article on Cluster Headaches. However, after seeing the article and how aenimic it was, I decided it was worthless and not worth my cash to buy a copy.
You really should do a COMPLETE ARTICLE on Cluster Headaches. Like it says in the article, more men suffer with it than women; therefore much much much more info should have been in the article such as symptoms, preventative treatments, triggers... there is a wealth of information out there that people need to know. Perhaps in the future you can rectify this by doing a full expose on Clusters.

Sincerely,
Carl Daniels

Well, that was certainly a waste of five minutes reading time....  does this guy have any clue?????

What's the deal with aromatheraphy? It can trigger migraines (anything can), but not clusters. Eucalytus (msp) oil in a hot tub of water seemed to help me for a while. It smells good anyhow.

Sorry Thomas -- maybe next time...

I get the magazine. someone gave the subscription to me as a gift. My expectations were low, as it always is when any consumer mag does something about clusters. Especially Mens Health - it is a high octane, snippet filled, latest health craze oriented, men's mag that is only a first cousin to a muscle magazine.

So, I was actually pleased that they got a couple of things in there that are of GREAT value. #1, that pure oxygen is an accepted and normal, and effective treatment. how many of us have dealt with doctors who have tried to argue that fact. Now, a magazine as stupid as Men's Health says you would be stupid not to know this....... That's a huge victory.

As for the aromatherapy remark, well, I would probably avoid aromatherapy during a cycle as many scents seem to be a trigger.

Thomas, you did your best dude. In my opinion, if some clusterhead that doesn't come here sees this and is able to convince their doctor to get them some damn oxygen they have previously not known about or been denied -- then the time you spent is worth every second. Kudo's to you for trying!!!!

Too bad they ended up doing a fluff piece ... broad, shallow. It is a definite letdown if we were expecting something detailed.  Maybe thats all those type of publications will do ... what we think is essential is too detailed for the masses of people that skim their articles.

I guess it really bugs me to see recurrent headaches of any kind minimized--again.

Would a cheery, flippant article about Cystic Fibrosis or diabetes have passed muster with the editorial board?

Once again--"it's just a headache".
