Interesting take on "beauty"

We all know that photos in mags of those oh-so-pretty or "natural beauties"  are re-touched, but this can really be an eye-opener...

I know many of you have daughters.  I'm showing my daughter this so she realizes what the media is doing out there.  Reality is regularly distorted by the media.

A girl can dream to look like that model... except that model doesn't even look like herself!

I agree that every female should see this.  I love photoshop, but this is information that is left out when the schools are recruiting models.

It should also be noted that the same exact thing happens with the male models too.

Thanks, Pepa.  Will make sure to show Crystal that today...she's at the age in HS where this could really drive home the message that she truly is beautiful just the way she is.

BTW Pattie, I'm sure she'll want to know where to get that Barbie...LOL  Undecided

This video has even generated an in-depth, 5 page discussion on the Canon forum that I'm a  member of.  It's amazing what a ton of makeup and some airbrushing will do (not to take away from the photographer who is a master at digital retouching).

Age old question about symmetry, some guy Galios made a lot of headway struggling with it.

There is a preference for symmetry and our minds are attracted to and finely tuned to the detection of symmetry, as advertising knows.  However, used in that way, it can produce a bias in perception, observational selection effects -- filtering of physical reality by unrecognized biases.
If a pest control company manufactured mousetraps that are three inches long, they might conclude that all mice are shorter than three inches because all the mice trapped would be of that length.  A funneling of solutions to fit biased perception.

Whatever affect it may have, young girls could also think that anyone with average looks can aspire to be a model these days.

This is me after work talking to someone online. The only difference between this picture, and me at work is what I wear. I wash my hair, comb it, and out the door I go. I don't wear make-up, because I can't stand it. I only wear it for special occasions.

One thing for sure, I'll never be pencil thin like a model. They'd probably break the software using it on me, LOL.

So, I'm one, Jonny, LOL. I kinda liked you in the blue eyeshadow.  Grin But, I noticed since you got yer hair cut, no more make up (hint hint, anyone with photoshop?   )

Well Jonny, since you asked...
I do.
I go to work MOST everyday without doing make-up.  Obviously I do brush my hair, I don't want to look like a nutjob off the street and have security tackle me.  Considering I work on 57th & 5th avenue, I MUST be tempting the beauty police, right? And I sometimes I get the snippy stares from the Chanel ladies upstairs.  Tough.

Unless I have a special occasion, or go on vacation ;D, I usually don't wear much, if any makeup, at all.  I just can't stand "having to" look like everybody else.   Plus the fact that I am mega-short on time almost always.  My thing is, if you don't like me, don't look.  If you want to flip the script, I know a few men who could use some airbrushing but I think I have more substance than that, and I think they do too.  That's my point.

Trying to sell your product is fine and dandy, but tell that to a teenage girl that is anorexic, or bulimic, like a few women I see throwing up in my office bathroom, or getting plastic surgery at the age of 17 to look like a model type.  Most young women have no idea that what they see in media is cut, paste, brushed, touched-up, and an unrealistic image, and the extent of it.  There are many beautiful women in the world blessed with  the perfect looks and body, but everyone has their own flaws as well as their own individual beauty.

This isn't "guilding the lily" - wearing makeup.  It's more about cutting the petals up to make it look like a tulip.

I don't wear makeup.  But I do dye my silver hair sometimes.  The base makeup turned orange with the sweating, in the early '60's, and I've always needed to splash my face with cold water.

When I feel like crap, I don't care about beauty.  When I feel good, I depend on my smile.
