Hello all. Last night I got the sare of my life. I got a hit last night that just wouldn't go away. Dad doesn't think its clusters but he doesn't know exactly what it was. I was wondering if any of you knew. It wasn't more than a 5 but it just wouldn't go away. It started at about 3 and didn't go until a little after 9. It hurt to breath, light and noise killed but I couldn't sit still. I felt like I was dieing of thirst. It layed around the back of my head just behind my ears. At first I took 2 tylonal with no effect because I thought it was just the changing weather. I layed down which was impossable because I could'n sit still. I tried cold thinking that would help but it didn't. I took a midirn that usually works but I couldn't wait for that to kick in. Finally I went down to Dad's and he gave me the O2. After a while with that it finally went away. I was just so scared because I thought it'd never leave. Any ideas on what this could be? Would love the help of my family on this one. Always, Felicia

It doesn't sound like clusters...but I'm not a doc. I would say...trust what your Dad says, for now. He is very wise about CH. Has this ever happened before? If so, then maybe you need to go to the doc, and see what this could be. Vibes to you, sweetie. I hope it's just a fluke, and nothing serious. Jean

Look at all the potential triggers from yesterday, weather, heat, light, what you ate.. how much you drank (very important. I need to drink ALOT!) Its hard to tell anything based on one attack sweetheart but trust your dad, he knows CH and he knows you, inside out. Keep a diary from today of everything you do, eat and drink when you get any headaches and see if there is any correlation. I hope it was a one off for you but if you do need to see a doc the best thing you can do is go armed with all the info you have on the conditions you got each attack under. Don't forget how long they last, what meds you used and what if anything seemed to work. Forget it for now Felicia. With a bit of luck it'll never happen again lots of love Helen

| This doesn't sound like cluster. The six-hour part is what sux. Both times I had a cluster attack that wouldn't abort are the times I landed in the hospital with an IV in the back of my hand. But I was getting hit with something very different than you describe.

We're still not sure what it was but I'm feeling much better today. Not even the littlest bit of pain. Dad didn't know what it was exactly but he thinks its some type of combo migrains. I was just wondering if any one else had had or heard of any thing like this. Thanks for the help guys. I'd love to hear what some more of you think. PF wishes. Always, Felicia

Doesn't sound like cluster to me. Possibly a non-typical migraine attack. But I'm not there, and your Dad is. Listen to his advice--he wants what's best for you, and he'll be there for you. Best wishes, George

Talk to your doctor. Let him know what happena nd when. What worked what didn't. It could have been a migraine in that light and noise hurt you. I know that when I do get migraine siting and laying around was not somethign that I could do unless I went to the ER and they knocked my ass out. So not all headaches that wont let you sit is a cluster. Keep track of everythingthat you can remember from Yesterday, what you ate, what you drank or did not drink, what did you do, etc. It might help to keep a headache journal especially if you get another one. PF Wishes, hun Tia

I'm not sure what you may be experiencing but give this a try. I still use it when I feel a little twinge. Dr. Wright’s Circulatory Technique: I am not sure what mechanism is triggered by this but whatever it is, at least indirectly helps kill the pain. I do know that this technique has nothing to do with meditation, relaxation, or psychic ability. It is entirely physical and takes some work. It involves concentrating on trying to redirect a little circulation to the arms, hands, or legs. It can described as a conscious circulatory flexing. Increased circulation will result in a reddening and warming of the hands. Try to think of it as filling your hands with redirected blood. The important and difficult part is that it has to be done without interruption through the pain. Do not give up in frustration. It may not work on the first try. Every now and then it will work almost immediately. I lived for those moments. Try experimenting between attacks. You will find that it gets easier with practice. I was given less than five minutes instruction in the use of method. The doctor, while placing his arm on his desk, showed me that he could slightly increase his arm and hand circulation. After several attempts, I was able to repeat this procedure and use it successfully. I have had about a 75% success rate shortening these attacks. My 20 minute attacks were often reduced to 10 minutes or less. Once proven that I had a chance to effectively deal with this horror, I always gave it a try as I had nothing to lose but pain. Perhaps it will help if you think of it as trying to fill the arm as if it is were an empty vessel. I used to try to imagine I was pushing blood away from my head into my arm. Use your imagination. There is one man who wrote that his standing barefoot on a concrete floor shortened his attacks. This may be similar as it draws some circulation away from the head. Cold water, exercise, or anything affecting circulation, seems to be worth a try. My suggestion is to not let up immediately when the pain goes. Waiting a minute is probably a good idea. So long as you do not slack off, this has a chance of working. This technique is very useful while waiting for medication to take effect or when none is available. It costs nothing, is non-invasive, and can be used just about anywhere. It is not a miracle but it helped me deal with this horror. It can be a bit exhausting but the success rate was good enough for me and a cluster headache sufferer will do just about anything to end the pain. It gives us a fighting chance. Charlie

It sounds like a Cluster-Migraine. When I used to get them, everything was the same except that I vomited, and mine only lasted 4 hours. My migraines also last 4 hours so that may be the reason. For treatment I found that Imitrex, coffee and being in the cold didn't help. My last one was before I got O2 so I don't know if it would help. The only thing I found that helped was sitting still in a chair. You want to dance like a Cluster but moving makes it worse. I forced myself to stay still and that reduced the pain some, but I would still have to wait it out. If you keep getting them ( hope not because for me they are worse that CH) you will need to get on a preventative. Beta blockers are suppose to be the treatment but for me Verapamil got rid of both my migraines and Cluster-Migraines. Paul

Thanks for the advice everybody. Not even the littlest bit of pain today so I'm doing really good. Hopefully it was just a freak thing. Charlie, I might try that. Dad says that it really does work. He uses it to keep his feet warm when he's hunting though. Tiannia, I think it might have been the temp. I went from sitting in the sun to sitting in the shade while we where visting with Paul. It started right about after we started for home. I don't know. Thanks again for your thoughts. If anyone can figure out anything about it send me a PM or something. PF wishes! Always, Felicia

It sounds like migraine. Whatever it might be, its gone now and most likely wont ever come back so who cares. Dont worry about it, go out with your friends and have a nice day. Fresh air and nice scenery is as good as oxygen. Love ya. Annette

I'm no doctor, but this is the FIRST thing that popped into my mind; Basilar migraines are known for their strange aura symptoms. Sometimes the strange visual aura can be two sided, and can be so bad it leads to temporary blindness. It's usually followed by incoordination (ataxia), double vision, vertigo, ringing in the ears, jerky eye movements, trouble hearing, slurred speech, and more severe versions of other migraine symptoms, such as nausea, prickly feelings on the body, sensitivity to light and/or sound, and trouble thinking clearly. This stage of the headache usually lasts about 5-60 minutes, but can last days in some cases. Usually there's a severe throbbing headache at the back of the head on both sides (as opposed to the more common migraine symptom of one-sided headache, often in the temples). Get to a doctor asap.

Could ita been anything like a 'tension headache' ordeal.....I KNOW that sounds stupid but my doc had mentiond to me since I get alot of them that they can come on sudden and they really are PAINFUL as hell cuz of the hard as a rock tightening and spasm's at the base of your head . And they can come on quick and just LINGER with solid pain for an hour or longer for me. Lot of times there so bad ya don't wanna sit still or lay down cuz it is hard to get 'away from it'.....and seems for me at least the pain spasm's will travel down my neck and run along to the tip of my shoulers and it feels really ODD......kinda scarey at times. Maybe sittin down with the 02 relaxed ya a bit ? Ok if that didn't make sense or sounded like a dumb idea then I appologize.....but I get them attacks alot and weather changes seem to have alot to do with all my body spasm's and flareups on bad pieces parts for sum reason. Weather is in for a big change here and I am feeling every bit of it Pam Glad ya got over it and feel better !!!
