Need Prayers!

I got my MRI back results back today. I just found out that I need low back surgery on L4/L5 & L5/S1. My whole left leg is numb and dragging. I had surgery on L5/S1 before and it feels like the same thing. If I am going to have surgery and then have it repeated every 5 years is this a good thing? What is the purpose? I cant take the pain. It is bad like a kip9. Perc are not touching it. Anyone with any back surgery advice if you could please pm me I would appreciate asking you a few questions. Love, Karla

No back surgery experience here except when my father-in-law had fusion surgery 10 years ago. He lived with us for 3 months during his recovery. He messed it up by getting up in the middle of the night, multiple times, without his brace on. They had to go back in and do the whole rods and screws deal. The only thing I can say is wear that turtle brace EXACTLY as your doc tells you to, and try to avoid eating percocet like candy if you can. Karla, you and Ted will be in my thoughts and prayers. My heart goes out to you Karla. I know all to well the pain involved. I had the discs removed from L4-L5, L5-S1 sixteen years ago. The pain was unrlenting almost to the point of insanity 24/7 day in day out before surgery. Sergury should give relief but it is a slow process to heal to the point of being mostly pain free. I'm partially paralized because I didn't have surgery soon enough to prevent permanent nerve damage. The best advice I can give is keep body weight down and keep the muscles in the trunk of your body in good shape. It is needed for support of the spine. Use your head to lift things. I.E. think and prepare before you lift anything. Keep active. What surgery did you have 5 years ago? Did they do a fusion or just a laminectomy? -P.

I understand your back pain !!!!! I am also putting off surery for the second time. Some nights the back pain, leg cramps and clusters all come on at the same time. It's just so much fun. I will be praying for you. Since this round of clusters hit I talk to God allot. L Skilly

5 years ago I had a diskectomy? It was a bulging disk with a pinched nerve root. The dr told me I would probably never walk again because the nerve damage was so bad. I was walking again in about 3 months. The left leg remained numb on the left side going down the outer leg all these years but now it is all numb and it goes to the inside of my leg also and my foot drags. I hope there is some hope for it.

It sounds like the nerve is getting pinched again Karla. If the surgeons are happy to operate again then it means they can "unpinch" that nerve once more for you. There is ALWAYS hope. All the best wishes and prayers comming your way. Annette

Hopes for a speedy recovery for you, Karla. My brother had (I'm not sure of the precise location) surgery to remove a disk and fuse two of his vertebrae together in his lower back. He seems to have recovered well from surgery. I hope that your surgery is at least as successful. Many good wishes to you. You're in our thoughts. Best, George

| Karla, This is basically what I had except both L4-L5, L5-S1 disks ruptured. (sheep accident) Don't put off the surgery because the more time that passes, the more damage the nerve root will sustain. Talk with your Dr. about the options available. (fusion, laminectomy, etc.) Surgery is scarey but it IS better than doing nothing. Trust me. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. -P.

I will definitely keep you in my prayers. My mom broke her back and had two surgeries, and was always in pain from it. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this again, and hope you get some relief very soon. Just remember, all it takes is a little faith the size of a mustard seed to move a mountain. Carl
