...that appeals to pre-teens and teens. Something that would inspire them to volunteer for a cause. I've been trying to find one, but frankly, I usually don't understand the lyrics of young peoples music.  Embarassed
I want to use it in a Powerpoint presentation.
Any of you young'uns have any ideas?
Thanks!!

Finding music that teens all can relate too is a wide variety, would something like this be usable? Its Alternative.

The Killers - All These Things That I've Done

This is Hip Hop, its more of an urban teen theme, they love this crap Grin Meghan says she likes this one the best  Wink

50cent - Outta Control

Nani,

This is one that inspired me back in the day, but it's been 25 years since I've been a teenager:

Quote:
We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the last war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Pink Floyd always bridges the generation gap.

On the Turning Away

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we wont understand
Dont accept that whats happening
Is just a case of others suffering
Or youll find that youre joining in
The turning away

Its a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting its shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that were all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
Its not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that therell be
No more turning away?

Hero by Mariah Carey comes to mind....

 There's a hero
If you look inside your heart
You don't have to be afraid
Of what you are
There's an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
It's a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold
You can find love
If you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt
Will disappear
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don't let anyone
Tear them away
Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time
You'll find the way
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

Let me se if I can find it in my MP3's but...

Two GOOD choices (methinks anyway) would be either Evanescence "Bring Me To Life"  or P.O.D. "Youth of The Nation" or their song "Alive".

That's my 2 cents. Lemme see if I can locate the audio tracks for ya.

POD has some good ones.

A bit dated but also good.

"One"

by Creed

Affirmative may be justified
Take from one give to another
The goal is to be unified
Take my hand be my brother
The payment silenced the masses
Sanctified by oppression
Unity took a backseat
Sliding further in regression

One, oh one,
The only way is one
I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try and change my mind

Society blind by color
Why hold down one to raise another
Discrimination now on both sides
Seeds of hate blossom further
The world is heading for mutiny
When all we want is unity
We may rise and fall, but in the end
We meet our fate together

One, oh one,
The only way is one
One, oh one,
The only way is one
I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try and change my mind

[x3]
I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world yeah
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try and change my mind

I feel angry I feel helpless
Want to change the world yeah
I feel violent I feel alone
Don't try and change my mind

Creed "one" live

Sorry bro, but she is trying to ATTRACT people. I hang with kids often and know what is 'in' and... dude, Creed is a joke to kids nowadays like 'hair metal' was a joke to the grunge kids.

Right now the goth / scene kids are into the 'emo' stuff, and Evanescence just released their best album to date.

POD is still really hip too (I say hip and that alone dates me cause I'm a far out groovey Freek) as it covers both the hard music and rap genres.
CREED was much better the first time I heard them.... when they were called PEARL JAM and released the album TEN!  Wink

Scott Stapp was the pasteurized, homogenized version of Eddie Vedder and... what does it say when your band breaks up, then immediately reforms with a new lead singer under a new name? The first time I saw the video for Creed "Higher" I violently  hurl

Peace,
Carl

Wow what a slam LOL. I doubt if any of the kids ever heard the song, let alone the first album.

Anyway there is a POD song that would be perfect, that is if I could remember the name of the song or the album.

I found the one I was looking for....

POD, Change The World

Imagine a place only your soul can vision
The heart of a child who looks, sees and listens
She paints a picture using every color
And what she sees, she sees is like no other

[Chorus:]
One word, a voice unheard
You can change the world
With everything I know you're made of
One word, a voice unheard
You can change the world
If everyone would stop and listen

The art of innocence make so much sense
But placed inthe wrong hands, well then it's wasted
Filtered throught he eyes of a pure mind
A one-of-a-kind paradise for you and I

[Chorus]

Break the cycle, find your rhythm
Share the gift that you've been given

You can
You can change the world
You can change the world

[Chorus (repeat)

Here is the song but you have to install their stupid plugin, at least for FF

I'm not entirely sure what mainstream teens like to listen to.

I think the most recent band I listen to is Nirvana. Unfortunately most of my music wouldn't appeal to the majority of teens since it alls under alternative/opera/classic rock categories. A lot of bands my friends hate, unfortunately.

If anything you could try the Eagles, Beatles, or 10,000 Maniacs. There might be something there.
