A Hero finally at rest Thanks to Jackie and Blake!

When someone dies, it can tear a family apart, or bring them together. I have seen it happen, someone die and the whole family fall apart. Its one of the sadist things to me in life. My son in law died in Iraq a little over a year ago. My daughter had him cremated and kept his ashes. She just wasn't ready to let go I guess. Well that caused a lot of problems, between kids from other marriages and her in laws. My daughter has moved on with her life. I thought it was time to put my son in law to rest. My daughter was in total agreement. It was important to me as a mother for his ashes to be given to his mother! Hopefully giving closure to his whole family. The problem was his ashes were in Michigan his Mother lived in Fl. We had to get his ashes To FL without shipping them, that was the problem. I thought and thought so I called Jackie who lives a hour and half from her. I said "Jackie I need a big big favor. " Jackie said " Sure anything for you". I said Jackie "I need you to go and pick my son in law up and keep him for me until I can get him picked up." "Its his remains his ashes!" Jackie said ! WHAT? "Jackie goes and tells Blake and Blake said he had hear it all now". Then Jackie tells me yes of course she would do it. The lady drives a hour and meets my daughter and picks the ashes up. Some of my son in laws friends who were with him when he was killed in Iraq will pick the ashes up today and he will be delivered to his mother, then he will be buried and all family members and friends can visit. It is the right thing to do to give closure to all! We could not of done it without Jackie's and Blake's help. This is a sad thing with a happy ending for everyone. We have all been able to laugh a little and I am sure my son in law would join right in the laughter. That is the kind of man he was always laughing. Here I am asking Jackie to go pick up remains of my son in law keep them at home and wait for them to be picked up. Now you know Blake , Jackie and I made it funny but respectful. Tears come easy these days and laughter felt good. Jackie AND Blake were safe the last two days with a hero watching over them, and all of his family can now maybe have closure. Closure is important to be able to heal. Jackie and Blake has helped me make it possible for his family to heal and for my daughter to move on. To me that's true friends! Thank you Jackie and Blake. It took a year standing on the side line and watching all these people hurting and finding a way to help everyone heal. Maybe now there will be closure for everyone including me.

Many thanks to Jackie and Blake. The loss of a son/husband/son-in-law is hard enough. To not get closure for the loss makes it even much harder. Lady E, my thanks also to your daughter and her in-laws for his life and service. As Jesus said, "greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for a friend." I mourn for him, but with gratitude for his standing up for us. Jerry

Elaine, You NEVER cease to amaze me. You are quite an angel in the works honey. How considerate of you to think of his mother !!!! I hope all of you can find closure by such a selfless deed by all. Your daughter indeed is quite the brave one herself, I'm sure it took a lot to agree to your "scheme" We all know NO STORY of Elaine's can come to us without some sort of humor with it. I am glad that you know your son in law would be laughing along with his entire family, through heartfelt tears as well. Elaine, you're a gem. Jackie and Blake.............you guys are wonderful for assisting a family member in such a way as this. God bless you all, EDNA

It's been quite an emotional couple of days. Two soldiers in military gear showed up at my door early this morning. We talked for a little bit. They told me they were both with Stephen when he was killed. We talked a little bit more. Then the Sgt. turned to the other soldier and said, "Are you ready to do this, bud?" The reply was, "Yes Sir, I am". With that they both came to attention and saluted their "bud". Then McCoy picked up what they came for, thanked me again and headed for the door. The one said, as he walked through the door....."Stephen, you're heavy"....then he looked back over his shoulder at me, smiled and gave me a nod. Then they were gone. I will never forget this day or those two fine soldiers. They were on a mission and it was accomplished. Elaine, you did a wonderful thing. If you haven't already made you place in heaven you did it today!!! God bless all our fine military men and women. Jackie

A story of heroes all the way around. Heroes in uniform, our hero and angel Lady E, and of course heroes to so many and angels in their own right as well, Jackie and Blake. It's that very thing, that selfless act, that freedom to make the choice to bring peace to everyone involved, that is what Stephen died for. Freedom is Not Free. Don't ever let politics or social climate dictate how you look at our fine men and women in uniform. Being able to freely voice your disapproval of the very war they are fighting and dying in is what they are fighting and dying for. Cat

Elaine, I know your sense of humor very well so I know you won't take this as disrespectful but, I could just see Jackies and Blakes facial expressions when you called them. Jackie you are a gem.
