Lookin for a little info here from suma you guys that maybe have went thru this.....a friends 18 yr old daughter ran a stopsign and t-boned sumone about 2 weeks ago BAD. She is on life support and never has came to yet.....she has crushed skull and spleen....cuts on her face so bad she may loose an eye.....badly broken hip and cut liver and other issues goin on. The dad is DEVASTATED.....the even sadder part is her and her dad had a rough relationship even tho she lived at home till about 2 weeks before the accident.....they fought alot and she talked terrible to him and accused him of stuff. Was hard on the family (he is remarried but gives the kids all a good home and jus tries to keep control)....wonder'd how long they will leave sumone like that on life support if no response ? He has apparently taken on sum of the bill responsibility to get her to continue to recieve quality care in ICU.....dunno HOW they will pay for it. Guess she only showed response to heat on toes and fingers earlier. But as of now she has NEVER regained contiousness. And to think they may never get the chance to resolve there problems and make up is sadder yet Pam   Cry

Thanks...............................not tryin to be a downer here....but wonder'd if they will let this go for a while longer or give him the 'pull the plug option' that will jus kill him mentally. She still has brain swelling and bleeding.

Oh my god. Cry
I just read about a 16 year old who had a small car filled with teenagers. She was driving with one of those small spares when she suddenly swerved into on coming traffic. 1 fifteen year old dead, one young lady lost a leg and several others in critical condition. I'm just scared to death when I think about what it's going to be like when my Brittney starts driving.

Even tho I am sumwhat familiar with Terri's case I forgot exactly the cause......was it an auto type accident or health related for her to be in the coma state ? I tried to look it up but my server is runnin so slow it took 15 minutes just for a search to come up. But I suppose either way sumthin like this could go on forever.......the dad and step mom both lost there jobs a few years ago when a BIG COMPANY they worked at and would of retired from LEFT and moved out. (Rubbermaid) so they have both been struggling to get new jobs goin and caught up on bills and keep things flowing.....and now this. I can't even IMAGINE the cost he will get stuck with.....she was moved out and 18 but he has taken on the medical bills to keep her where she is and under the best care. It is so sad to watch family tragidy's unfold Pam

It's gonna depend on the State Law in Ohio, Pam.

As long as she has brain activity...she will probably remain on life support.

God will have to take care of the rest.

It's so sad that kids now days get sideways with their parents.  Then something like this happens...and she may never be able to resolve things with her Dad.

I have a daughter 'n law that went thru this when her Dad got sick.   For 3 weeks she sat with him in ICU...and never opened her mouth to try to resolve differences.
She left the hospital for a change of clothes and a shower.....he died before she got back.

Vibes and prayers....for this young girl.   This is sad   Cry

Pam,

Please tell them not to give uphope.  As long as there is brain activity there is still hope.  There will probably be impairment afterword, but it is worth the struggle.

A friend of mine from years ago had his wife in a coma for almost two years before she came out of it.  During that time he visited with her and talked with her as if she was able to hear and to understand.  Often those in a coma will be able to hear and know what is going on around them, but just are not able to respond.  She said later that his being there every day and talking with her gave her the drive to live.  He would read the paper to her, read the Bible, tell her what was going on at home, read get well cards, talk about vacations and what they had done in the past, etc.  One of the most important things for him and for all who enter the room to remember is to be POSITIVE!!!  Never talk about how badly she looks or is doing.  Instead, talk about whatever improvements she is making and encourage her.  One of the last senses to leave is hearing.

Being on the road as much asI am I see stuff like that happening all the time.  That is why my kids think I am the meanest man around for not letting them drive just because they are 16.

Please let them know they are in our prayers.

My take on this (and I'm not a doctor by any stretch of the imagination) is that if there is still swelling and bleeding in the brain there is still trauma to be overcome.

They wouldn't allow (I don't think) pulling the plug on someone who is still unstable medically as it seems this young woman is.

Should the swelling recede and the bleeding stop and she is still in a persistent vegetative state then things change and let's hope she had a living will or a durable healthcare power of attorney.

Which reminds me . . . .how many of you have those two documents in a place where your nearest closest relative can find them?  How many of you have those documents at all?

You can download them off the internet, complete your wishes, have your neighbors witness your signature and have peace of mind that your wishes will be carried out as closely as possible.

God bless this poor woman and her family and give them peace.
