May we NEVER forget...

Words cannot describe the pain, sorrow, desparation, and anger I still feel to this day when I think about 9/11, still 5 years later.

Today is Patriot's Day...to honor, remember, celebrate, and recognize the men and women that gave their lives helping thousands to get to safety, the individuals who on a daily basis fight for our freedom, and a day to stop, and be humbled that we are here today...living.

Today is their day..................

I love everyone of you and just wanted you to know...whether it be yesterday, today or tomorrow, it will be forever.

Humbled,
Stephanie

My respects to those fallen and to those who endure.

My gratitude to those in the military who are far from their loved ones on this day, halfway around the world--may your sacrifices bring us someday to a better world.  Those of you I've met are the finest people I know.

One day when this terrible wind is spent, when the awful necessity that we find ourselves embroiled in is finished, and when peace returns, let us gather our strength and muster our courage to resolve that this evil must never be allowed to stand, to take steps that this heinous act and others like it will never be the way of humankind again, and that we will forever be vigilant against those who would destroy lives in an attempt to force their illusions and their madness upon us all.

Never forget.

And their harlequin eyes.
The pain they inspire
Draws in harmonica melodies
And the feathers of birds
Which flame up at their touch.
It all comes to light in the sheer
Debonair.

"And if my wish for you has any power, so war will remain for you, always, only a dim legend, so you will never stand in a field and never die and never rush out of a house crumbling in fire.
"Nevertheless, you will be soldiers one day.
And one day you will know that the sweet breath of this life,
the precious possesion of the heartbeat, is only a loan, and that whatever was lost in the past and the heir you long for and the furtherst future rolls through your blood.  And that for every hair on your head somebody endured one struggle, one pain, one death.
And you shall know that whatever is noble in your soul is always a warrior, even though he bears no weapons."
"To Children (at the end of 1914)

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

God's speed to all of the people directly effected by 9/11.  Each and every one of us was effected, but there are those who's familes made the ultimate sacrifice.  Shall we never forget their legacy, for then they would have surely died in vain.

Thanks for starting this tread, Stephanie.

I bow humbly to those on board the flights, to those in the buildings, to those who ran out to safety, to those who tried but never made it, to those who had to watch helplessly, to those who stood there ground when all hope was gone, to those who pushed forward to save maybe 1 more knowing they may not return, but mostly to those who Honor and Remember all of them vowing to NEVER let something like this happen again.

Today is a sacred day to us here.  So many lives lost.  So many of us watching the horror unfold and not able to do a damn thing.

I was at my new job. I took at message that one of the Twin Towers was on fire.  I put that message on the person's phone on his desk, thinking it was a joke.

Two weeks before I had turned down a job at Morgan Stanley, because I felt it was too junior for me, even though I had been laid off.  It was on the 67th floor of the South Tower.  The weight of the building stepping out of the elevator up there was such that I still feel it yaw in my memory.

I'm lucky to be alive, albeit for my own selfishness.  The co-workers of my new job that came struggling up to midtown, covered in greyish-white ash, stunned, tired, and in shock, proved to me how lucky I was.

I suffered the fear of not knowing where my mother was for eight hours.  She worked in a municipal building a few blocks from the towers.  She was hysterical when I had last spoken to her.

My brother had gotten off the train 2 blocks away.  He saw what was happening, stood in shock long enough to watch a man jump to his death, and turned right back on to the subway.  He watched the towers fall from the subway on the bridge.  He picked up my daughter and was beside himself, not being able to reach my mother.  So much so that he needed to do something.  He painted his whole apartment that day and my daughter repeated his fearful rantings of the whole day that had passed.  I reached my mother after 8 long hours, and when she poked her head out the window to see me ringing the bell like a maniac while I fumbled with the keys, we both cried.

I'm sitting here wondering why there hasn't even been an email in memoriam, or in tribute to those who lost their lives, here at work.  Maybe it's too much for anyone to think about all over again.  Maybe its for productivity's sake.  I tend to think its the latter.

Whatever it may be, I know, I won't ever forget.

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Bought a CNN DVD of it a few years ago. It's my favorite. I looked at it again the other day. Every time I do, I find it hard to comprehend.
