just driving to work when the first plane hit the first tower.

On AOL instant messenger with Ted for the rest of the morning. His father was working in Manhatten at the time and he was SO worried about him.  Also on the old ch.com board most of the day, sitting here with the clusterfolk.   I can still hear Ted's words that day.... 'my country is under attack!'  I don't think I've ever felt the depth of sadness or helplessness that I did that day.

That night, just home, glued to the TV, crying. Sad

I was on the phone with my mum when the second plane hit the tower and I listened as she cried.  Damn, it's all still so fresh, even for those of us far away from where it happened.  I'm sure not ready to see that movie that's out about it yet.  I think it's WAY too soon to release it.

I was opening the store and office at Malibu Beach RV Park where Linda and I were managers.

I had started up the computers made coffee and was watching live news when the first plane hit.

I called my employees and told them to stay home and turn on their TV's and then went around the park telling as many guests as I could to do the same. An Assistant Manager then helped me carry my large TV to the office area and hook it up outside for the many campers from our tent area that did not have TV.

We spent the rest of the day watching in shock and trying to get through to The NY area by phone and internet so that people could check on loved ones.

I will never forget a moment of that day Cry.....Tim

On the phone with my friend as he decribed what he saw as the 1st tower burned.  Then the second jet came in.   We wondered if our friends made it out......they didn't.

Watched the news that night and knew nothing would ever be the same.

Jasper was three weeks old that day and I was sitting feeding him watching the news about the first tower when the second one got hit, I watched from there on in until they both fell.
I couldn't lay Jasper down to sleep, I held him all afternoon (here) and when Brid and Barney came home from school we all sat and watched.
After they had both fallen we took the kids to the park for a while, we didn't even know if there would be a tomorrow and I was terrified of what would happen next.
It was a horrific awful day that hasn't dimmed with time.

I turned on the news after I got my daughter up for school, and I was getting ready for work.  The 1st tower had been hit, but it did not seem real. I looked like I had turned it on to a movie rather then the live news.  I was burshing my daughters hair when the 2nd plane hit.  I screamed for Shaun to wake up because the US had been attacked.

I had to go to work, and told my boss what had happened because he had already been at work for 2 hours.  I spent the rest of the mornign helping him because his dad was a pilot for one  of the airlines. They had a TV set up in the conference room. The day still seems sureal. But I will never forget it.  Cry

At work when I heard that the 1st tower had been hit.  Fired up a TV to see what was going on.  Then fired up the auditorium monster screen and got all my instructors and their students in to watch the rest unfold. Scrapped training for that day, no one would have paid attention to their technical manuals that day anyway.

The other part that I remember was seeing the sky for the 1st time in my life without any contrails (sp?).  Then saw a hugh one heading straight with several smaller ones flying ahead and turning back.  Figured it was Air Force One with protection.

I was in NYC with two of my trucks...I drove one while an off-duty Police Officer drove my other truck. I would never have gotten out of the city if He wasn't with me. He was beeped and told to report to work-Now !!! We ran 15 red lights....Then I got home and received a call from my son who was a senior at Fordham Prep( On the campus of Fordham University)... Which is within the city limits...I had to go through 3 police checks to go pick him up. I was listening to WINS Radio--( It is a news radio station in New York City)---The news journalist stated------" The world is a very different place now then it was two hours ago." I then had to pick my daughter up at school...same reason---within NYC Limits........We All prayed, and hoped that it would get better. Then I made a point of bringing my family to restaurants within the groud zero area to show them support. Unfortuately most of them closed, as the area was a Ghost Town. We had a friend whose husband worked for Cantor-Fitzgerald---Floor 105---She never received a phone call and he never came home.

I remember that too, Echo.  So eerie to not see any air traffic, except for military planes.  And then, when air traffic resumed, being afraid of every plane that flew overhead for a few months after that.  Still, when I see a plane, that memory flashback comes.  Sad

At work.  Bossman's wife called and said a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center towers.  We had little, bitty TV, the kind you hold in your hand.  Fired it up and plugged it in next to my desk - bad reception, but could see.  Boss and I are saying "whata horrible tragedy", thinking it was some awful accident.  We continue with work, then see tower 2 get hit. I holler to boss - not an accident.  Then we watch video of the hit on the Pentagon, then we hear about the fourth plane crashing in a field.  We were wondering how much more were they going to do.  Kept expecting to hear of more crashes in buildings in Chicago, LA, any major city,

We didn't know who did these things, but we sure knew we were under attack.

Awful day

Was awakened by a phone from a friend telling me what happened and like Kevin I was glued to the TV for the next several days.

Margi I just saw the movie and it is a wonderful, tribute to everyone who died and forced to be instant hero's.   It was done with taste and compassion and there was not one single gratuitous scene in it.

Just sitting down with my first cup of coffee, flicked on the news, and thought I had come upon a remake of War Of The Worlds. It didnt take long for me to figure out it was horrendously real. I do'nt think I did much of anything that day. I was numb, and the news kept rolling out more disastrous developments.
I had the opportunity to visit Ground Zero a few years ago, with some of my clustergirlfriends. There we were, in the pouring rain, noone knew we were all sobbing. Just the site, and knowing how many people were never found was intensely painful.
Don't know if I can see the movie....

I was getting ready for work that morning.  Saw it on the news.  At that time my eldest daughter was stationed in Kuwait and my youngest had been at Penn State for two weeks for her first year of college. (the plane that crashed into the ground there did so 5 minutes by air from her.)
I had never felt so vulnerable in my life.  I was numb for weeks (as was the whole country) I too think of the lack of airplanes.
Still too much to relay.

It took place in the afternoon for me.

I was getting ready to leave for London in few days, so I was packing and went to the bank to get some traveller's cheques.

When I got home, I turned the TV on and wondered what one of our best news anchors is talking about? I checked out text - tv for news, went online for more info
and I called mum (she was at hairdresser's) and told her the news.

I watched TV the whole night and pretty much the last few days before I flew to London to begin my studies at the university of Westminster. Back there, the first 2 weeks everyone were still talking about it and every time we saw a plane flying low above the campus area we could feel cold shiver in our spines...

That's what it was like for me.

At home.  Saw the images of the first tower burning, and saw the second tower hit.  That's when it became obvious that it was a deliberate act.

Had a call from my middle brother (who was still in the military then) later in the day.  They were put on full alert.

No contrails in the sky, except the flights from the air force base to the east of us.

Lots of wild speculation, even out here, about whether the dams above the city would be blown up.  The governor had all access to the statehouse blocked by armed National Guard--you couldn't approach within four blocks in a vehicle.

A terrible, strange day.  The images from New York and Washington and Pennsylvania were horrifying, but I couldn't stop watching.

So many lives....

Requesit in pace.

Never forget.

In sadness and regret,

George

I was at work that morning.  At the time I was a Breakfast Director for one of our Hampton Inn's.  I had the T.V. on every morning tuned into CNN so my guests could get caught up for the day.  We literally watched the whole thing unfold right before our eyes.  I was shocked, stunned, frightened, and worried for my son's future.

My father works out at McConnell Air Force base and I immediately picked up the phone and called his office...of course it was busy.  Then called his cell phone and listened to him whisper to me that his Captain told him that he needed to go home that night, kiss his wife, mow his yard and pack his bags.  He left 3 days later for The Pentagon, he was gone for 6 weeks.  He was on the "dream team" that organized the first bombings in Afganistan.

I left work that afternoon, picked Conner up from daycare and sat in front of the T.V. the whole night with, Kelly, my ex-husband, and didn't let Conner out my sight for months.

May we never forget what that day meant to each of us, whether we lost someone dear to us or not, we have lost 1,000's of good soliders that have died for just that...us.

God Bless this country, the men and women who fight for us and the ones that have died, but never in vain!  Cry

Love,
Steph
