Mayo clinic, what a class act.

I went there to see a Dr. Dodick in the Scottsdale clinic for my SUNCT, and I have got to say besides all the fear of what they might find it was the best medical experience I have ever had. They where always on time and every time you checked into one of the clinics they would give you a new printout with all your appointments on it with times locations, who you would see, just amazing. They always called you with in ten minutes of the scheduled time and I never sat more then maybe ten minutes at the most in a room waiting for the doctor. Why can’t they all do that? All my test came out fine including my liver witch with the amount of Tylenol I have taken over the years amazed me a bit but was very glad to hear. The doctor even wanted to use me in a case study that he was going to give in England, he said he would give me a brake on the medical bill since my insurance is only covering 50% so that is also great. I never felt like he was trying to rush off, he spent at least a half hour with me each time I saw him and made me feel like he really cared about what I was going through, to bad they are so expensive and so far away. He told me that another guy came in the same day as me with SUNCT and that the guy had been suffering for 8 years with no brake from it, I seriously don’t know how, I don’t know if I would be strong enough to last that long with no break from this pain in my head and have no idea how you chronics do it with CH either, my hat is off to anyone who can deal with head pain and stay strong with no relief at least mine so far has only been one nine month one and now this one is at nine and hasn’t stopped but have hope that he will find a treatment that will give me relief. It sucks that to see the best and get the best treatment you have to be loaded or go deep in debt. No matter how much it is going to cost us my wife and I are both really glad we went and saw him. Just thought I would share. Matt

That is great Matt. I wish I could do that. I have had to hit and miss with docs. But lucky I randomly found a neuro and a primary that do pretty well.

I may have to change my opinion of them now, I called yesterday first thing to tell the doctor that the medicine was making me sick and that I stopped taking it and wanted him to call in the next one he talked about trying. The medicine made me barely functional, I was constantly feeling like I needed to run to the bathroom to yawn in Technicolor. So four hours later got a call from the nurse just to clarify the message I left earlier and said she would get it to the doctor. So now it a day later and I am feeling better as far as not feeling sick but I am on any medication since he has not called in anything. So they are not so good if you are to far away to not be able to come in for an appointment I guess. I hope I will hear from them today, I also have an appointment with my old neurologist today so maybe he can get through and find out what we need to try now. At least I have not ran out of my pain meds yet so I am not suffering more then usual. Matt

Now there pissing me off! So the Mayo tells me to tell my neurologist here that they will be taking care of me and once they get me stable that I might come back to see him, ok fine I do that and he asks if they are going to be taking care of my pain medication, yes they are at least that is what the nurse told me. Then I get a call back from the nurse telling me that they want me to still get my pain meds from my neurologist here, WTF! Ok call back the neurologist who says well no, I am not comfortable writing pain medication for you when you are under another doctors care that is writing scripts for you, ok I can see that and agree. So call back to the Mayo and another wait for a call back, now the nurse tell me again that they want the other guy to write them and I tell her he wont and I see why he wont and the that she says well then the doctor said to have your primary write the script for the pain meds, WTF!! Again? I have not seen the guy in 8 months and he is just supposed to say sure let me give you a bunch of pain medication because you just asked? Now she is calling my neurologist here to see what they can work out, OMG you think I was asking for LSD or something, dam I have been at the same amount for most of the last six months on the pain meds and if they would make the SUNCT pain go away I would be glad to stop but I should not have to suffer because they can’t decide who should write a friggen script! Remember that SUNCT is constant pain normally only a 4 or 5 on kip but after 9 months the thought of not having the meds to take the edge of the pain and that is all it does, scares me, I will go nuts with out some relief, maybe I am a puss but actually I’m not, you chronics, man not a clue how you do it, but I may find out since I think there are only like two more meds to try on me then the only option is to live with it or do the surgery, neither is appealing. Jim when you go for your walk tonight, instead of stepping on a rattler can you step on my doc since your right down the road, maybe you could catch him on the way to his car? Matt
