Oh, and lets not forget the 3 boxes of kleenex from every kid in the class. I'm thinking the teacher never has to buy Kleenex for the rest of her life. Jimmers

Some of the school districts in NY are proposing students get laptops. What ever happened to learning to read, write, add, subtract, multiply and divide. I remember school suplies were pencils, eraser, sharpener, a few notebooks and perhaps some clothes and shoes because I grew out of last years. Book covers were made from paper bags from the grocery store. -P.

Our district had the b*lls to REQUIRE all high school students have a certain calculator that costs $165-$185.00..no matter what math class they were taking. I sent a letter stating that I will NOT be buying this for my daughter as I had a hard time affording the other $110.00 worth of supplies they required..and if they deemed it THAT necessary for students to have..they should provide them for classroom use. WTF... Happy School Days! Much Love Shari

I can't relate...started working in a coal mine when I was two years old, 23 hours a day, no pay because it was an apprenticeship...still at it, still an apprentice. What are books?

Books are these really neat things, cardboard & paper or cloth covers, papers with words on them are in between the covers. If you're lucky, you get pictures, too. Charlotte

| Ha! You must be as old as me to know the lyrics to that song-it was a trick! Sung by the late, great Tenessee Ernie Ford (no relation to Henry) !

Wait til you have three kids in school uniform too.. blazers, shirts, ties, sweaters, skirt/trousers, regulation socks, regulation shoes, regulation back pack etc not to mention the usual stationery supplies (and the shaggin calculators!) THEN you get to add in sports kit. Rugby kit for boys, grass Hockey for girls and boots for both, football (soccer) uniforms and boots for both, Gym kit and shoes and swimming costumes - school ones.. Sending kids to school isn't education anymore, its bloody extortion racket! Oh and then we have the joy of all the field trips to pay for too! One a term minimum for three kids and after school activities soon means there is just way too much month left at the end of money

When I was in school......yes, we had them even my my day, we had to bring new notebooks...that most guys filled with drawings of dogfights and tank battles. We never had to buy books though. Mostly teachers managed to find copies of any "special" books for us. It was fun buying all those pencils though. We had such good intentions in September. Charlie
