Racism and or bigotry

Racism and or bigotry After a lot of thought I am posting this thought!!!! I am NOT writing about the problems within the USA with the Latin / Central America originating ethnic groups nor about the African Americans…. and what ever other ethnic groups! It’s about a global problem……. mixing Anti-Semitism with anti Israeli paroles….. Israel is a country / state like any other country / state on this globe…. and what more, it is a very democratic country…… surrounded by totalitarian…. patriacalic…. at time (for western norms) Barbaric regimes….. whether I agree with the Israeli politics or not or with there doing is NOT the point! Disagreement or despising the deeds of the Israeli State / Nation and its government should not be mixed with or being used to promote or as an excuse for anti-Semitism and bigotry…. toward the Jewish Diasporas, Unfortunately groups / organizations / Individuals do mix anti Israeli opinions with Anti-Semitism Racism and bigotry toward any ethnical group is beyond wrong, it’s criminal and hateful toward the human race……. PLEASE DO NOT MIX POLITICS WITH RACISM AND BIGOTRY….. WE WHO KNOW PAIN…… SHOULD NOT HURT OTHERS BLINDLY (the way the beast does to us)….. JUST FOR BEING OF A DIFFERENT ETHNICAL GROUP…. I am writing this after I was reading a few posts….. that could be and are close if not more of being anti-Semitic…. and that is not only not acceptable….. IT HURTS….. "I detest racialism, because I regard it as a barbaric thing" Nelson Mandela and this web-site was created by the honourable DJ and supported by his lovely wife not to hurt but in order to help…. and give our “family” members a place to vent! Do correct me if I am wrong…… Bigotry and anti-Semitism I cannot tolerate! But as I am the new one in the family….. then it is me that has to take (and live) with the consequences…… as much as it hurts…… Michael P.S PLEAS DO NOT TUREN THIS INTO A MUD FIGHT…….

Racism is grounded in ignorance and fear. And calling some one a racist because they wish to protect their way of life is sheer foolishness. Racism would not be such a problem in our country if the politicians would quit playing the race card at every turn. I don't care what color your skin is, or who your God is, if you are a shit-bag, I will call you a shit-bag.

| Coming from "this" side of the race issue, I would say that that's a naive assumption. Racism runs deep and rampant in this society. And yes... even here.

| I would say the answer is somewhere in between. I don't think people are naturally racist. They are taught to be so, and part of that fire is fueled by politicians stoking the fire with the race card. Most of it comes from parents. Those people in whom it runs deep learned it at home, from a very young age. But I'm not qualified to comment on how wide-spread it is. Are a majority of Americans racist? I don't know.

Very true, Bill. I did a research paper on racism in college. First and foremost, it comes from our parents. Racism can be subtle and not so obvious, though. Not all racists are cross burning KKK types... ... a whole lot of racists consider themselves NOT racist, based solely on that kind of behavior.

| Exactly. Look at small children in pre-school, they don't care about color, they play with each other because they are all kids. People learn to be racists. I should know I am a recovering bigot.

I usually stay away from these kinds of things, but... There is no biological justification for dividing people into "races", and no possible pseudoscientific basis for racism. Genetically, we are remarkably similar. All of us. We're more closely related to one another than is the case with almost any other critter that can be named. Cheetahs, maybe, are an exception--and pandas. There is more genetic variation within a single troop of chimpanzees in central Africa than there is among the entire human race. It's remarkable, and we're just beginning to understand why that might be. Most of the physical differences between groups of people are incredibly superficial, and have developed over very short periods of time. So if there is no biological basis for racism, it follows that the differences that divide us and drive us to kill one another are societal, religious, and cultural. Perhaps one day we can work our way through those--I don't think that would be possible if we were of different "races", or even more, if we were of different species. If we can just get it through our thick skulls that we are all one people--the only people there are--perhaps we'll finally have the chance to grow up. Just my view, FWIW. I'll say nothing more about it. Regards, George

George, just to add to your post, which reflects the findings of Richard Lewontin in 1972 from measuring the properties of proteins and computing a standard measure of variation known Wright's fixation or Fst, invented by Sewall Wright, one of the three founders of population genetics. This position was adopted by the American Sociological Asso. and American Anthropological Asso. as well as most biologists. Race remains of no scientific interest. Biology will acknowledge that different courses have been taken by diverging populations throughout the past history of man and they have adapted independently to different environments, evolving along independent paths while genes are in flux. In medicine, it has been found that people of different continental origin may differ in their response to drugs. The heart drug enalapril can hospitalize a patient of one continental ancestry and have no effect on another. In another case, Dr. Jay N. Cohn at U of MN gave a trial of BiDil to a general population and it appeared to not have any particular effectiveness at first. On further analysis it seemed to have done well within a subset of the population. In a new trial on that subset alone, BiDil worked so well that the trial had to be stopped in order that the drug could be offered to the patients in the comparison group not receiving it. BiDil would have never been discovered if one subset of patients had not been analyzed, leading to the discovery of an important drug for an underserved community. In this way, genetics is explored, so far using short tandem repeats of filler material in DNA lying close to genes using 100 random sites known as Ancestry Informative Markers. Using this method, DNAPrint Genomics was employed in a 2003 police inquiry for correctly identifying the continent of origin of a serial killer when they thought otherwise but reliability has not been established.
