I seem to have lost my touch researching stuff. I used to be able to find some good places to research historical militaria..buckles and other insignia. It's American stuff that I need to identify. I'm real sick of being directed to ebay, amazon or the zillion other jerks selling stuff. I SOL finding real info. No matter what I do....I know how to use inclusive stuff and ways to exclude things.... I'm not having much luck. Any ideas kids? Thanks Charlie

Charlie, You can probably find your local library on the internet also and search for any books they have on hand you're looking for as well as search any book in your county that you can get ordered to your library for pick up. Library cards are free and allow access to county-wide sites, even statewide databases. I know my 14 digit library card# and 4 digit pin# by heart. Here: American military insignia Fowler, William. Publisher: Mallard Press, Pub date: 1990. Pages: 80 p. : ISBN: 0792450795 --------------------- American military insignia, 1800-1851 Campbell, J. Duncan (James Duncan), 1916- Publisher: Smithsonian Institution: [For sale by the Supt. of Docs., U.S. Govt. Print. Off.], Pub date: 1963. Pages: 124 p.,

Hi Charlie, I asked the ex-librarian and the resident teenager in the house this question. They both gave me the same answer. Try a search string that will exclude Ebay, Amazon, and anything else you want to exclude. Put everything you want specifically in quotes at the beginning. For example: "military insignia",+american,-ebay,-amazon etc, etc, etc. I tried it, briefly, and it seems to work. Let me know if it does the trick. If not, maybe it can be tweaked a little more. Best wishes, George

Ah! The foreigners put on such airs Wearing the tangerine suits And their harlequin eyes. The pain they inspire Draws in harmonica melodies And the feathers of birds Which flame up at their touch. It all comes to light in the sheer Debonair. (Ellen)

Thanks Chewy and the rest of you kids. How did you find these things again? I've been to a few of them but lost my way. I owe you Chewy. For the rest of you, over the years, I've run through libraries and found good stuff like you suggest. I even have a decent library on other types of militaria. The thing is that I've been to some good sites over the last few years but for the last few weeks, no matter how I worded or excluded stuff in my search, I got nothing but the monster militaria market. Damn it used to be easier. I used to be able to get the information sites like Chewy suggested. I saved them now. Whew. I've done stuff like this: +patches+and+military+and+clusterheads+ .... for example. A friend of mine uses things like that. Worked most of the time. Anyway, thanks again folks! Grateful old Charlie
