Liz, Ellen and I are habitual readers. Are you? I was wondering whether we might start a thread here about recommended books and what we are reading now--don't know about you, but I'm always looking for something new and interesting. Right now, I'm reading a couple of non-fiction books: "Cliffs of Despair--A Journey to the Edge" by Tom Hunt. It's about Beachy Head in Sussex--a place where a disproportionate number of people have committed suicide by jumping off cliffs over the years. An eerie, disturbing read. also, "Brutal Journey--The Epic Story of the First Crossing of North America" by Paul Schneider. It's about the travels and hardships of a group of 400 Spaniards, the Navarez Expedition, who set off into the northern unknown in 1528 from Tampa Bay. Years later, only three emerged. The rest died en route, after descending into a nightmare of hardship. Well written, and interesting. What say you? Regards, George

I love to read, but I'm sure you guys wouldn't be interested in the books that I read. I'd need to talk to some of the ladies, it's more their speed.

Naw, it's wide open, Kimmie. As far as I'm concerned, it's for everyone to get recommendations, not just particular genres. Go for it. Best, George Going away now. Back in a few hours.

Just finished Angels and Demons and The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. Before that it was the Jack Ryan books by Tom Clancey. There hasn't really been anything that tripped my trigger that is new, so I was rereading those this summer.

I'm getting like Jonny. I like to read history but since the internet and porn I spend time reading and researching for stupid ebay. I have books by my chair of which I read a page a day....maybe. Sad really. Now and then I'll reread old paperbacks. It's incredible the stupid crap I was into. Charlie

I go in cycles between science journals (AJP cell, Science), and fiction. I like Dean Koontz (the man is a warped person) Clive Cussler. M Crichton. Basically brain candy. -P.

| I might as well just put "modified" in my tagline or include decoder rings to read my first posted reply. I read boring stuff, so then even crossing out the day on my calender is a distracting highlight.

Shakespere Marc Antonies soliloqy after Ceaser is slain. Ps. I read Penthouse for the articles.

When I can read, I read my old Anne McCaffrey and new J.D. Robb girlie science fiction books. When I can't read, I look at my watercolor books with lots of pictures and long for the days I could concentrate. Charlotte

| I like that one too. Old Ignatius P. Reilly and his d*mned pyloric valve. LOL. I've got a copy of John Kennedy Toole's other, earlier (unpublished until years later) book "The Neon Bible" around here somewhere. Don't like it nearly as well. Liz is from Nawlins, so "Confederacy" has particular significance with us. LMAO about the ads from the Home D. I like 'em too. Some of it is fiction, though--particularly the part about "You can do it." I've found that to be science fiction, as a matter of fact. Shakespeare? Hm. "Now Faustus art thou damned...." Wait a sec'--that's Marlowe. "Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by this son of York..." Go ahead and shoot me, but I love that stuff too. on Aug 17th, 2006, 8:40pm, Jonny wrote: Thats why I keep them short and to the point |
