The addiction of grandparenting

Eric's post about staring at his daughter got me dreaming.....LOL
It doesn't stop at parenting. Grandparenting is hypnotizing too. This is my desktop picture this week. Our little Princess Savannah Marie (or Savannah Banana as we call her). I just can't take my eyes off this kid either.

And I know what you mean. The first cry out of my little Caleb was magic and hasn't changed in the last 4 1/2 years. It just gets better and better, especially when he crawls in my lap and says, "Granny I love you. I need some holding."
Of course, there are times. Like yesterday, we went to Texas to visit "our" clients. We stopped by City Hall to see his other grandmother. While there, the police showed up in force -- seems someone set off the silent alarm under "Nana's" desk. Nana was totally beside herself and Granny laughed till she hurt. The little culprit (who was a policeman yesterday - badge and all) tried to arrest one of the officers - finally settled on giving him a "ticket" for driving too fast. Oh well, boys will be boys.... 
But I've enjoyed every minute of him and just can't get enough. He starts back to school next week and I'm gonna be lost. I've had him 12-14 hours since about April. I may go into withdrawal.
Enjoy Savanah Banana all you can. They grow up so fast.

My mother has a bumper sticker that says "Grandchildren are your reward for not killing your children" and she's had it for years. I always thought it was totally morbid. Until The Banana came into our lives, that is. Now, I can totally relate!
You think I'm verbose about the wonders of granddaughters? You should hear Mike on the subject. I may as well turn into a pillar of salt when Banana toddles into the room if Grampa's there. They are like magnets to each other and it's hard to tell who giggles more.

aw, thanks folks! Not sure where the natural curl is coming from but it's getting curlier every day. Her dad is 1/4 Native so she's got that gorgeous skin tone and her mom's sapphire blue eyes. I've told Corinne (her mum, my baby) that she better employ a pack of hungry rottweillers when this kid hits teenage to keep the human hounds at bay. Kinda like we had to when HER mum was growing up!
LOL oh my God, Margi - just shut UP!! Sorry folks...just real proud of my girls.

My son made me a grandma at 36. I could have killed him.
When the baby kept him up night after night..I smiled.
When said Toddler was into everything and he complained of breakage of his favorite stuff..I smiled.
When him and his wife couldn't get away alone together for even one evening, I sat with with said child...and I smiled.
When she pitched a fit, wouldn't pick up her toys or play well with others...I chuckled.
When the cost of private schooling made him complain of being in the poor-house....I snickered very loudly.
He now has every adolescent boy in town at his door-step and he's going out of his mind..I am laughing my a$$ off.
Yes, being a grandparent DOES have other inherant perks. I've laughed a lot.

hey, Linda, I think I can go ya one better... 
It was real hot here last weekend and we put water in our kiddie pool so the Princess could splash around. Her diaper quickly got heavy though, so Grampa took it off for her and she just loved playing naked. Came time to eat and her Mummy just pulled her onto her lap so she was tall enough to sit at the picnic table and chow down.
Pretty soon, I caught the look in Savannah's eye as she started to make her "poop face". I've never seen my daughter move so fast in all her life. Man she had that kid on the grass in the blink of an eye and a diaper whipped out of the bag in time to catch the....fallout. She became a one woman diapering team instantaneously!! LOL
Mike and I just sat back and laughed our asses off. And the payback begins.......
you were only 36? I panicked when I found out at age 44!! It's better this way though...Her mum turns 40 when she's 18 and I'll be 62 then - we can still all three of us go to Maui and hang out on the beach together.

Well, we're late bloomers in our family. I waited till my mom was 58 to have Buddy and paybacks are hell .... he waited till I was 58 to have Caleb. I guess what goes around comes around. I'll be in the old folks home by the time Caleb gets out of college, but I'll be there to cheer (like mom did with Buddy).
And Linda, I can relate really well. I DO smile a lot. They're EXHAUSTED after staying up with him all night when he's not wanting to sleep -- poor babies. And they're exhausted after working all week and then not having Granny on weekends - poor babies. Occassionally I tell them to GET OUT and Caleb and I have a hot date just like mommie and daddy. He thinks that's neat. (Also, when they go out, Caleb and Granny get into the margarittas -- oh hell, a little isn't going to hurt him and it's a big "secret" - we don't tell his parents - they think I'm a bad influence anyhow!)
One thing -- always tell the grandkids every sin their parents ever committed - don't want them to miss anything.
Ya know there's a reason grandkids and grandparents bond so well -- we share a common enemy!
And Margi I'd post a picture if I can ever figure out how to do it. I just happen to have a few million handy... but no computer skills. Maybe after I get moved to the farm and life slows down a little, I can concentrate on learning how to do some of these things.

Margi.....what a beautiful child. Don't you just wanna feel that perfect baby skin?
My granddaughter just earnd her associates degree and will attend FAU in Boca Raton later this month....going for her degree in bio chem.....want's to help find a cure for Alzheimers before I come down with it!! I saw this little girl born and heard her first cry, and now she's almost all grown up. (Tear time, sorry) I just helped her into her first appartment this past Tuesday. Talk about seperation anxiety!! She lives on the east coast now and is a 3 hour drive away. I miss her so much already. Where did almost 21 years go?
Isn't it funny how much less we worry about the little insignificant happenings in childrens behaviour now that we've been thru it once already? No wonder grandparents are accused of spoiling these little blessed creatures.

I, too, was present for Savannah's birth and held her within 5 minutes of her coming into this world. She was born "sunny side up", face up and she actually opened her eyes on the way out and I swear she looked right at me. It's a memory I will always treasure. She's 15 months old tomorrow and still, we lock eyes and well....we just know we've found each other's best friend.....you know?
She has a real twinkle in her eyes and when she sees me now, she starts wiggling her fingers at me and says "tickle, tickle, tickle". Just makes my heart melt every damn time. LOL
I'm taking Monday off because her dayhome lady is unavailable. So, Savannah is going to babysit me for the day. We've got great things planned, her and I. I'm thinking baking cookies and lots of them.

I don't have grangkids yet (pause as world breathes a collective sigh of relief) but I'm getting my practice in. My oldest daughter brings her friend over with her 4 yr old son. I wind that little ankle biter up and shortly before he goes home we have mountain dew time just to keep mommy on her toes the rest of the night.
Ps. I love these pics, the kids are all absolutely beautiful
