So we bought a video monitor for the baby's room b/c all the grunting a squeaking will of course wake us but we find that when we go check her out she is asleep. This was supposed to be helpful for my wife who is such a light sleeper. I on the other hand have learned her sounds during the night b/c my shift is always230/3 until I am ready for work. This is not a knock on my bride..... Here's my vent.......... I can't stop watching the damn screen!!!!!!!!!! I was perfectly content staying up and listening for her but now if I see her and she is not moving the FUCKING Thoughts race Damn it!

Don't worry. There are plenty of worse things to be obsessed about! BUT, it's time to worry when you start to skip work to watch that screen... Sanna

I still sneak in to Crystal's room at night just to watch her sleep and wonder why God was so good to me to bring me her -- and she's 16! You're such a good Dad E2... Love, Langa

Hang in there doll...you are being a loving dad...you will get through this as you , your wife, and bundle of sugar grow together...much love sweetie ...Summer

Hey, have you taken the spoon into her room yet and placed it under her nose to make sure you can see her breath. I am guilty of that. Obsessing, nah... just a loving parent.

Video monitor? Dang, my wife and I would have never slept. Funny thing is that my wife used to wake up with any noice on the monitor (audio) and then wake me up to find out if she should go in. I would say 'no' and she would go in anyway. Now, I wake up with any noice and she sleeps through it. We have monitors in both of our kids rooms and %40 of the time I end up sleeping with my son these days. Eventually, you will stop obsessing over breathing, but then you'll have other things to obsess about. Great thing about being a good parent, Eric. Little sleep and tons of anxiety. However, I like to think the kids feel safer. It helps me sleep a little. I also suffer from staring at my kids pictures. I am with them almost every hour of every day but I still look at their pictures when they are not with me. Instaed of wondering if I am obsessing, I just call it counting my blessings.

Hi E2, When mine was a shrimp, I used to wake up every couple of hours to go check on her--just to make sure she was breathing, you know. Know what you mean about being obsessive. After about a year or so, it wasn't an issue. She got really good at climbing out of the crib quietly and coming into our room at night. Nine times out of ten, we'd find her asleep at the foot of our bed in the morning. Here's something interesting. I don't think this was known when mine was that age, but when she starts to talk, try this: Peek in on her when she's just in bed, lying quietly, and falling asleep. You'll find that she might be whispering words and babbles she's learned during the day, over and over. Apparently, it's part of the language-development process. Babies who are learning to talk will repeat things to themselves when they're falling asleep. As if they're practicing. Charming. Wish I'd known about it then. Regards, George

| Oh, A-FRIGGIN-men to THAT!! The first time she sleeps through the night, E, you'll be in there holding a mirror over her mouth to make sure she fogs it up to indicate she is still breathing. Bet you hadn't thought of that one yet, have you? Wait till she says 'can i borrow the car for a while?' And then you stand there in your driveway watching her drive away ALONE for the first time. Or when she's 10 minutes late for curfew. Yep, all good times ahead. Your solace is to make the following words your mantra and repeat them incessantly to your daughter: 'someday you will have a daughter of your own' Trust me, when they DO get a daughter of their own? Yeah, the planets realign and everything becomes right in the world again. But for the next 20 years or so, don't plan on getting much sleep, my friend.

Obsessing? For cryin' out loud...how could you not be obsessed with that little angel. Keep staring, Edub... until she's old enough to tell you that you're creeping her out.
