Cell Phone

On August 7th I will start a new job at Quovadx as an instructor teaching really technical stuff which I am very good at. The job pays $20K/year more than I am earning now. Quovadx also provides a $100/month cell phone allowance. The cell phone is a condition of employment.

For those of you who know me personally, you know that I am a kind, gentle, somewhat slow BOF. During my adult life I have avoided and never owned a pager or cell phone. Only smilies are worse.

How in the hell did this happen?

P.S. No, you cannot have the number.

I kept one in the car for years (in case of emergency), but now have a second one that I carry around in my purse. I hate it when people call me at WalMart (diverts my attention from "looking" at everything I can't live without). But it's the 21st century. Get used to it.

I finally found out HOW to turn mine off. Great invention - the OFF button.  Smiley

Had one once when they first came out.  At the time, they were about the size and weight of a Smith & Wesson .44 caliber handgun.  You had to carry them in a big leather holster.  Batteries lasted about 4 hours.  Cell coverage was crrrrrrap.

After I quit needing to haul one around, I swore I'd never have one again.

I'm sure you know the rest of the story:  I've now got a Razr that slips unnoticed into my pocket.  Coverage is getting better all the time.  We've gotten rid of our land line now--each of us just carries his or her cell phone around.

I agree--best things about them are "off", "ignore", and the vibration mode so you don't have them piping up with an irritating little tune in public places.

Best,

George

Wearing the tangerine suits
And their harlequin eyes.
The pain they inspire
Draws in harmonica melodies
And the feathers of birds
Which flame up at their touch.
It all comes to light in the sheer
Debonair.

required to have a cell phone because your boss may need to communicate with you, seems a VERY small price to pay for 20K more than you're making now.

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.
