Take it as it comes, deal with whatever pops up and move on. Oh yeah, I've been known to drink alot, when that happens I have absolutely no balance and usually fall over.

Easy. Six months to the beast, and six not worrying about it much. Actually, only three to four to the beast, however, I'm working real hard on a faster recovery period and figuring out a way to function normally in cycle. Many here have demonstraed that ability, so I'm gonna have a go at it. Of course, that's easy to say out of cycle..

I don't even think about beer or anything like that during a cycle. As a matter of fact history says I should in one right now and since I'm not and the kids with the ex, I'm at the Elephant Bar most nights. It's not easy being single.

Well: When I was getting hit, I didn't balance it but then I didn't have a traditional family. I was doing lots of antique and collectible shows at the time such as Brimfield, MA even. The thing is that my partner was a retired teacher of nursing at a NYS hospital and knew a lot about clusters. It made things a lot easier. I miss Dave. What an incredible slob he was too. Charlie

He was Oscar Madison. Here is a guy who taught mostly psychiatric nursing before he retired (What an idiot. If he hung on back then, he could have had a tier 1 NYS pension....) Anyway, hygiene wasn't the problem but he was a clutterer and never cleaned up after himself. The first thing he said to me as I entered his 7 room apartment, not far from Utica Club Brewery, was: "Don't step on the paintings." He had art, glass, paper, guns, china, and you-name-it piled all over the place..... He did have black water in the kitchen sink until I moved in. Seeing this was a revelation to a kid that grew up in a Swedish household. It was fun. I wouldn't have missed that experience for the world. I met some weird and frankly dangerous types thanks to whatever criminal activity Dave was engaged in. Too bad he died at 62. What a loss. He was a walking encyclopedia. Charlie

My cycle has always been as predictable as sunrise and sunset. I plan for when it's coming, withdraw from my responsibilities as much as I can until it's over, then extend my psychological pseudopods out into the world again. Life's for living--CH is only a part of it, and I control it. I don't allow it to control me. Bit by bit, as others have said, a day at a time.... Best, George

Ok, maybe because I am chronic, but I REFUSE to let the beast control my life!!! I DON'T back away from things, just because I know I am going to get hit! I REFUSE to give him that sort of power over me! I try to ignore the hits, but BETWEEN them!! WooHoo!!! I try to live life to the fullest!!! I work hard, I play hard, I party hard!!! SCREW the beast!!! He WILL NOT control my life! Yes, I get hit a lot, and get hit hard, but DAMNIT, I control my life! Chuck

Yorky, I hope these headaches leave you soon. Frankly, I was not much good at "balancing" my life during these cycles. I had a lot of untreated bad cycles...as they became worse I did lose some jobs, etc. But I have also accomplished a lot in my life...graduated cum laude from college even with yearly cycles (during the school year)--I had to write my papers and read my books and go to class on no sleep and I mean no sleep--I consider that an accomplishment. Look at what you have and can and do accomplish (rather than what you haven't) even if it is "just" finding some enjoyment the next day (I remember being in the middle of those hard freaking hits--it sucks) that is an accomplishment when these things are full-blast. Basically in these cycles sometimes you win some and come out on top and sometimes you don't--I hate to simplify it like that but I have had these for 18 years--this is the first year I have had helpful treatment (melatonin)--and that is how it has been for me. Keep trying to find efficient treatment--I had given up hope long ago--now suddenly I found something that so far is helping me to reduce hits and intensity. You have to be tough to get through these--these headaches give you no choice. And please tell me that you have a good neurologist Yorky. I hope you get relief soon. Take care Yorky. Starlight
