London Trip!!

Well I just found out yesterday that my friend is going to switch weekends with me in September for work, so now I have the dates set (almost!) for my London trip!!! I'll be going September 13 through September 21 or 22nd. I plan to stay with Helen the 13-17 and in London the 17- whenever I leave. I have to work the 23rd, so I'm debating if I'll need a full day off in between or if I got home in the afternoon on the 22nd, would I be okay to work the next day? Anybody have any suggestions there that does much Euro to America traveling?? I can't waiiiiiiit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looking into staying at the Kensington Close Hotel possibly...that's a 3 star hotel (according to the conference website and hotels.com) that is just a 3 minute walk from the conference site and probably the cheapest for this low-budget Euro traveler! Any tips on that would also be appreciated! The conference is in Kensington.

Oh that would be lovely to still meet up for drinks! I am guessing at this point that I will be staying alone in London. It makes me very nervous, but I don't know anybody else that can stay with me and go to the conference. I hate doing anything by myself, but it's just the timing of the thing!!

You'll be fine Lizzie, just keep your head up and be aware. It is an opertunity of a lifetime and you will regret it for the rest of your life if you don't go. I am sure Helen can set you up a couple dinner dates with some London CHers if you ask her. Aat least that way you can get to meet a couple more people and won't be eating alone. Matt

| Yes some London CH'ers would be very helpful! I'd rather not have to sightsee alone or eat alone! At least the 18-20 is the conference. So I'd just need some company for a short bit! Also...I'm hoping Helen can still give me a ride into London on the 17th and that there is some easy way to get to the airport from the hotel! I've been stressing about this trip for months because I am scared to death to go places alone. I don't go to the Philadelphia Art Museum alone...let alone to sightsee overseas! Sucks to have nobody that can go anywhere with you.......... Sorry...self-pity rant over. But seriously this is why I've only slept 6 hours in the last 4 nights (until last night) because I was so damn stressed about this whole trip!

Don't sweat it Lizzie, Helen will be all over it, you know what kind of Mother CHen she is. Clusterheads take care of other clusterheads, doesn't matter where we live or what we do, we are all family. Wait and see, you know I'm right..........

| It's not a matter of growing up from childhood. It's a matter of loneliness, which can plague people of all ages. I live alone....I have a few friends, but they don't call me, etc. It's a quiet world....me and the cat. That's all...

You'll be fine. Good people in London. Take it from a drunken sailor, a couple of drinks and the conversation takes off. Say hi to the Queen for me!

Huh.. if anyone thinks Im leaving Lizzie alone in London by herself for five minutes they have another thing coming. Knowing my luck she'd find the one good looking male there Lizzie you are not going to be alone, I have loads of stuff in the planning and meeting loads of other ch'ers is most definitely on the agenda Do not worry - well not about being on your own at any rate! You might want to start making a list of people who can bail you out though.......

Lizzie, RELAX! It's going to be fine. Lord! I've traveled all over the world alone and had a great time. Be sure to check out the Torture Chamber at the Tower of London (I've loved that one.) I found a "device" for almost everyone I know (welll, you make your "fun" where you find it!). Helen will take care of you and show you the sights so quit worrying. You'll be fine and dandy and have a great time. Have fun... Hugs BD

| If you like that sort of thing ask helen to show you her adult closet Seriously(sp) though if anyone will look after you lizzie it is the wonderful Helen, she will put your mind at ease from the first moment and you will soon forget any worries you had and start to enjoy your self. One tip though, dont get in between her and her alcohol as it could be hazardouse to your health All the best Lizzie. Dape

| Actually, I moved back to the US a few years back. but seriously Lizzie... you need to chill out. Why even *plan* a trip if it gets you this worked up (no sleep, etc)? You already know you're going to be fine. Get over it and PLAN on having a great time.

I'm over it. It was just one of those bad days! When I planned the trip, I was very excited....can't get into everything, but I just needed something to hang on to and something to look forward to because at the time, I didn't have anything else. So I'm still very glad I'm going. I've just been seeing time slip by without things getting settled and it's been causing a lot of anxiety! But now...it's good! Helen and Matt, thank you both for your PMs!! I really can't wait to meet you guys...or anyone else! I brought my book on Great Britain down here to the shore to look at a few things I'd like to see, too! Still don't have my passport, which is kinda another stressor...but a different one. Fu - it hasn't been just the idea of going causing me to lose sleep. There have been a lot of things going on for me right now which have set up a ton of hurdles in getting there, but I'm working on it... Helen - I'll get back to you on PM....as of right now, I was looking at a hotel in Kensington, but we can talk about other places, too! The hotel I was looking at is a 3 minute walk from the conference site. Gonna go take a nap now myself...last night was the first real night of sleep I've gotten in a week!
