Hi summerbabe, the only "painkillers" that I know of that are vaso constrictors are triptans. these are generally considered to slow acting to be useful for CH in cluster form however there is one which can be used to prevent hits. Frovatriptan has a half life of up to 26 hours. It takes up to 2 hours to kick in though so you need to take it well before any expected hits. You can take two in 24 hours and in this way you can prevent hits however, as with everything, there is a downside. Alot of us who use it find that if you use it for more than a couple of days in a row that it can cause hits to return far more intensely and be harder to abort.
Used 2-3 times a week at most, to ensure a PF day or night it is a very useful weapon however
