Today is my husband Jesse's 31st birthday. For the last 4 nights he had woken up at night with the cold sweats, soaking the sheets. Not only that, he had been feeling weak, achey and had a headache off and on. I took him into Urgent Care as our Doc was not in today. They took 6 tubes of blood from him and said it was likely whatever he had was due to a tick bite (possible Ehrlichiosis). They gave him a script for Doxycycline and sent us home. When we got home, Lily, who was watching Eli for us, was all bundled up in a blanket with a sweatsuit on looking not well at all. I took her temp, it was 102.2, so off to town I go AGAIN to Urgent Care (mind you we live 30 min. away from town). Needless to say, after they withdrew 3 tubes of blood from her, the doc said it was likely Lime Disease and said that in an hour she would have results back and if Lily had Lime Disease, she'd be RX'd Amoxycicilin, and if it was what Jesse had, she'd get the Doxycycline. Well, after an hour we picked up the RX...it was for Amoxycicilin. Oh freaking joy! You should have seen the triage nurse and the pharmacist... "Weren't you in here before?"

I remember when the twins would pass things back and forth, illnesses that is. The revolving door came in handy at Urgent care. Hang in there Mel. Should only be a few more days Too bad it had to ruin a Holiday weekend to boot. Get well wishes for all.

I knew a bloke who served out WWII as a merchant sea captain, later earned three of the Commonwealth's highest bravery awards for rescues at sea, climbed some the world's highest mountains (though never Everest), was a top-class chess player and an absolute gentleman into the bargain. Got taken out by a tick aged 82. Please take care.

Mel - Is it possible they just have some kind of weird strep infection? It just doesn't seem to me that 2 people in the same family could come down with some tick disease within a 24 hour period. Besides, I thought it took awhile for these things to show up. Not a nurse anymore, but just thinking .... Kris

Darn, Mel. How awful! Keep a close watch on both of them. Tick bites are nothing to laugh about - they can be extrenely dangerous. I wish you the absolute best, and I'm so sorry this is happening. Sandy

| They didn't just "come down with it in a 24hr period". My daughter got bit about a week and a half ago, and we have no clue when my husband got bit. Yes, it takes at least a week for symptoms to show, so the timeline is right on target. Luckily enough, I got them both in and diagnosed (Lily will be offically tomorrow) quickly. It is not unheard of in Wisconsin, especially central and northern, for people to get lyme disease. It was diagnosed incorrectly for many years before they learned what to look and test for and the correct meds to prescribe. My dad's mom had it, so did hubby's Aunt and they are both doing fine now. Check out the American Lyme Disease Foundation here: http://www.aldf.com/lyme.shtml Thanks everyone for your concern and well wishes. I am very worried about my family as they will be suffering for the next couple weeks. I am trying to keep them as comfortable as possible with Tylenol, Ibuprofen, ice packs and lots of blankets, but there's only so much I can do. The docs offered Jesse some pain meds, but the OTC's are working for him, so he declined. I'm just glad that if he needs it, he can get it. hugs, mel

So sorry Mel. Rats. Life keeps biting you in the ass like this. No effen fair. I hope this turns out to be something more benign than Lyme Disease though. It's a crappy way to get into summer. Charlie

Man, that sucks, Mel. Ticks are nothing to mess with. Hope everyone gets better soon. Our friends Shirley and Greg just had something similar happen--Shirley was hospitalized for acute abdominal pain, and Greg got so stressed out he had an attack of shingles. Wow, he looks bad--like something out of the Mummy's Tomb... Best regards, George

Aww, Melly, what a revoltin development! Wish I could help you, girl! here's my suggestion for the 4th....... put all the healthy ones on the floor, on a blanket, on their bascks, with their heads pointing at the TV. When the televised fireworks begin, let them look at the TV like this, upside down and pretend they are in the park watching. Not perfect...........but it gets a lot of giggles!!! Keeping my fingers crossed that everyone comes out just fine.... Cathi

I hope that the medication works wonders. Nobody really understands how ticks get all over the place--but they do and being hit by them is so unpleasant. I'll be hoping and praying they both improve immediately.

Thanks so much you guys. I am trying really hard not to get all worked up about all of this, but I was in tears last night. Jesse's bloodwork tested positive for Lime Disease. Now I'm wondering if the docs on call today will phone with Lily's results. I told Jess that tonight if Lily isn't feeling well enough, she's been throwing up this morning, I'll forgo the fireworks and sit at home with her while he takes Eli to see them. This really sucks.

| We'll get threw it Mellipoo, call around and talk to some of the best doctors and treatments. Mell did you thoroughly check her entire body to make sure the tick isn't burrowed in her skin? Its very important to make sure its off her. I have a few friends who have Lime Disease, unfortunately both did not have the "bullseye" and had treatment options in its late stages because of it. Please check every single inch (twice), very important. I'll be thinking of all of you, Hugs Me
