In praise of OUCH UK Hero's

We had a 10K run in London yesterday and OUCH UK had 15 runners taking part. This thing is BIG.. there were over 30,000 runners in total. Some of us went along to cheer them on, I went along with my daughter Brid, her friend Jasmin and Jasper (Barney was away camping with school). We had to leave home at silly o'clock to get there but it was worth every minute of lost sleep and many, many more besides. We got to Whitehall for about 9am and met up with the others - Jasper was particularly pleased to see Joshie, Dape (DavyP to you here) and Julie's little boy. They had great fun playing together and sharing snakes and frogs of the high sugar variety All kids thoroughly enjoyed it although Jasper got quite upset when Val ran past because he wanted to go "wunning" with her. Brid and Jasmin both wanted to run next year but have been told they have to wait until they are 15 so they are forming a cheerleading squad for next year instead (and no TingTong - you CANNOT wear your green goddess outfit and join them.. sheesh) I have to say how brave both Val and Dape in particular were, two chronic sufferers who were prepared to risk getting hit to make that run and raise money for OUCH. Talk about courage in the line of fire.. that was it. It was a stnking hot day too.. not a breath of a breeze and temps in excess of 90 degrees.. not clusterhead weather at the best of times and running in it????! Dape got hit right after the starting line and managed to get on his o2. He had to endure comments like "can't even get off the starting line" from the crowd too which nearly broke my heart when he told me. A policeman said "Looks like that's you retiring then" and Dapes answer shall remain unprintable I think! Needless to say he got up and got on with it. I don't know many people who could have done that - and on his birthday too! Happy Birthday once again Dape, you truly are one hell of a man and I'm very, VERY proud to know you. All my friends that you met the other week (you know - at THAT party! ) let out a huge scream last night and were clapping and whooping for you. They were all also swallowing huge lumps when I told them how you did. A huge happy birthday from them too by the way. Jonny you weren't forgotten either. As Dape was running past Downing Street (where our Prime Minister lives) he - as he himself worded it - gave a "Jonny Salute" to Tony Blair So who's coming next year?! We're going to need a whole cheerleading squad by the sounds of it. All runner's and supporters welcome - I'll even do B&B LOL Here's a link to the photo's if anyone would like a look http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=viewAllPhotos&albumID= 551909967&security=HADQyJ

Wow, and I thought American spectators were harsh! Congratulations and happy birthday, Davy. You've done us all proud. Running in that kind of heat is amazing. But considering what CH'ers normally have to endure, what's a little heat, eh? And Helen, thank you for sharing a great story.

| It's a trip isn't it? I ran the Disney Marathon in Orlando, FL and it was roughly the same amount of people. It took 20 minutes just to cross the starting line, LOL. Good job folks.

Happy Birthday and congratulations. Nice going, nice pictures and we're all proud of you. Not sure I could run in weather approaching body temperature. Charlie
