I'm with Carol -- Listen to Mama..

Babies will LET YOU KNOW when they need something. The "eeks" and "squeeks" are NOT need - they are "baby sounds".

Trust me on this one -- GET some SLEEP - you'll wake up if she needs anything. My baby is almost 40 and I can still hear him cough thru three closed doors and be up with the cough syrup before he can get down the stairs to the kitchen. They didn't even have monitors when Carol's and my kids were babies and we got thru without too many mishaps.

Awwww - new daddys... a sight to behold... Wink

And relish every second guy, when they graduate from college you'll miss the hell out of when their problems were this easy, and daddy could fix everything with a hug and a kiss! Your wife is lucky to have a daddy who jumps in with both feet! Have fun.

LOL Eric!  You are a GREAT Dad!  Take it slow, you will wear yourself thin.  Listen to Joanna, Carol, Barbara and Nani.  Your little Hannah has you wrapped around her little finger already. Wink

Eric, You really are a great Daddy.  Hannah's a lucky little girl, and at this rate she will very early on learn that Daddy is very trainable by odd noises Grin  Relax, rest when she sleeps and really, babies can make some pretty strange noises that mean absolutely nothing bad.
You guys are too cute! Cheesy

Eric I so understand. Now I was a professional aunt and babysitter done the babystuff alot (so different when it's your bundle of joy).Billy had a daughter who was three when April was born so he'd been through it.Well she shared our room for months when Billy and people started saying to put her in her nursery.UUGGHH...Between our room and the nursey was the kithen and living room that was so far away.finally I set up her playpen in the living room along the wall that connected to her room.Man did I get flack from people saying it's just on the other side of the wall put her in her crib in her room.UUGGGHH.....It may have been just one wall between but to me it was a big deal !! AS you can guess she did end up in her own bedroom and when beth came along (she is 20 months younger ) it was a little easier, a little...yes people always said sleep when the baby sleeps but thats the time to get stuff done and more important watch the sleeping baby. They are so mesmerizing that I can watch them forever.I still go in and check on the kids at night and will watch them sleep.hard to believe my babies are 7 and 9.hugs to you,Lil Jo and Hannah heres a heads up there will probably be at least 2 other Hannah in her class every year it's a beautiful and popular name.I can't believe it but April and Beth are the only ones in the schools with their names.Lots of Bethanys but no Beths.
 Minnie
FYI  2 great movies to see with kids THe wild and Cars next on my list is over the hedge.we went to see cars at the drive in last night and Larry the cable guy as Mater  and Paul Newman as Doc Hudson steal the show.

Here's something to try if you want her to be able to solve her own problems and comfort herself over time. When she cries for you, wait 30 seconds, go to her, check on her, comfort her, do what you have to, then leave. When she starts crying again, double the time you wait (1 minute). Each time, double the amount of time you wait. It may take a few days for her to catch on, but catch on she will. She'll only start making a stink for you when she really has to.

This is the start of independence. Although it's hard to envision right now, the reason we all have kids is to raise healthy, happy, independent members of society who fly the nest when the time is right.

The irony lies in what I do for a living.
I can not even begin to tell you how many children I have helped learn to sleep on their own as well as teaching parents the skills needed.

I'm whipped and it already went out the window for now. I guess because she is mine & she is so damn tiny.

Turns out she had really bad gas last night and she did not sleep.

It kinda got us worried.

I've Been up since 1:56 and I thought that I would be fine since I'm pretty used to sleepless nights anyway.

Unfortunately I got sick and was out of commission for the 2nd and 3rd night home.
I'm still wiped out but able to take care of her.

I spent from 530-840 dancing with my little gal in the basement listeneing to some cool tunes.

Thanks all for reading and sharing,

I was waiting till you posted something on this line E.  It's so different when they are yours, so tiny and helpless, and your heart is filled with so much love it's overflowing with leakage beneath the doors and the need for a more powerful sump pump.

Give yourself time to adjust to the newness of it all, she is far to tiny to get "spoiled" just yet.  When the time is right you will, by the combination of education and learned behavior, know what to do and when to do it.

For now...just love her as you do and (try) not to get so analytical.

Bless your heart pappa.

(could you nibble those piggy toes of hers just once for me? Please? With a pic?)

EE,

Enjoy theses times, and let her squeak. You have it easy. I got to deal with a baby that screamed her head off for 4 hours every night until she was 6 months old. Hope you find a Balance soon.

Funny Eric.  Been there.  She's pretty fragile and tiny right now.  After a while you'll start to recognize which sounds are really cause for concern and which are not.  Things should settle down after a while.  I think the twins were about 18 months before we ever started getting any real rest, and POOF, now there gone.

Enjoy!
