I wish this were so!!

Maybe a bit radical. A bit off the wall. Will never happen, actually it can't. But wouldn't it be fun  Smiley
Also, who remembers what next tuesday is?

I wish this were so!!

WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY U.S. PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH?

My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of Iraq regime has been completed.

Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete.

This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now to begin the reckoning.

Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries, which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the countries listed there.

The other list contains everyone not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.

Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war.

The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hellholes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption.

Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France.

In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home. On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth.

Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe China.

I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. Bonïchance, mes amis.

I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don't care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York.

A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change.

Mexico’s also on List 2. President Fox and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put’em? Yep, border security.

Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty - starting now.

We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we'll be drilling for oil in Alaska - which will take care of this country's oil needs for decades to come. If you're an environmentalist who opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country and move there. They care.

It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, "darn tootin."

Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America. It is time to eliminate homelessness in America. To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thank you guys. We owe you and we won't forget.

To the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic.

God bless America. Thank you and good night.

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a soldier.

I would love to hear him say it was all just a bad dream. I was not stupid enough to invade Iraq without decent international support.  I was also not dumb enough to try to openly bully the rest of the world without considering the political and economic impact and the resulting surge of democratically-elected radical-leftist American-hating leaders in so many of our Latin America neighbors did not actually happen.   I did not make a failed attempt to merge some of the governments most important functions into one 'golden hammer' home-security branch and it did not result in a catastrophic failure during one of our nations worst natural disasters.  It's was all just a bad dream and we still have a shred of the dignity we did 5-6 years ago.

But that's just me.   Cool

Yeah, cuz the Gov and Mayor didn't drag their feet on that one...It's all Bush's fault.... Roll Eyes  50 school busses parked in a lot surrounded by water AFTER the leevees were breached, that could have been used IF the Mayor and Gov had listened to FEMA to get the people out.  Oh yeah, and don't forget firearms of private citizens, used for self defense, being confiscated, leaving these people at the hands of the looters...Yep, you're damn skippy...All Bush's fault. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes  And let's not forget, the Congressman, William Jefferson.  Made a National Guard detachment drive him in a duce and a half, to his home, through the middle of the hurricane, to get some "private" files from his house.  Then expected the Guardsmen to load a safe into the vehicle.  The added weight and pouring rain, got the vehicle stuck.  A Blackhawk circled over head for an hour and a half, until another duce and a half could come in and pull out the first.  But, you're right...that whole waste of taxpayers money, personnel that could have been helping people seek shelter, eh, it's all Bush's fault...We all get it...You don't like Bush...

Speak for yourself, and no you don't get it.   It's true I dislike Bush, or at least I am annoyed with him.  But that's very recent.   My reasons for feeling the way I do are purely based on what has happened since 9/11.  I feel like the executive branch took advantage of the new situation to push a neo-conservative agenda, I think the results are going to be a long term problem for us and it makes me mad that it happened.  That's all.

Nowhere did that say George W. Bush.

" WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY U.S. PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH? "

Note it says any president, democrat or republican. Both have done their share, Iraq, Bosnia, Somilia, etc, etc,

I don't know about you but I have as much dignity and faith in my country as I did 5 or 6 years ago, hell or even 30+ years ago.

To be perfectly honest I don't care for any damn politicians from either party. Maybe it is just time for us to let the rest of the world take care of their own crap.

The article appears to have a "less colorful than red" carpet attitude reflecting toward the international contribution from friends here, some who are making a HUGE effort to attend the convention from very far.   Also.

Not exactly what I meant by dignity.   I am a loyal American moderate with paleo-conservative sympathies.  Conservatives really need to learn the difference between paleo-conservatives and neo-conservatives.   Two very different drum-beats and different viewpoints, the confusion between the two is the neo's best friend.

I do speak for myself and I do get it.  What should we have done after 9/11?  If he did nothing to develope some kind of security, then everyone would have been bitching that he did nothing.  And if there was another attack on US soil, then he would have heard about that even more.  Can't have it both ways.  Hind sight is 20/20, and it is easy to pick apart every little thing that has gone wrong.   Roll Eyes

Instead, we wake up to hear this:

Quote:
Military commanders in the field in Iraq admit in private reports to the Pentagon that the war "is lost" and that the U.S. military is unable to stem the mounting violence that is killing 1,000 Iraqi civilians a month.

Even worse, they report the massacre of Iraqi civilians at Haditha is "just the tip of the iceberg" with overstressed, out-of-control Americans soldiers pushed beyond the breaking point both physically and mentally.

"We are in trouble in Iraq," says retired army general Barry McCaffrey. "Our forces can't sustain this pace, and I'm afraid the American people are walking away from this war."

Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has clamped a tight security lid on the increasingly pessimistic reports coming out of field commanders in Iraq, threatening swift action against any military personnel who leak details to the press or public.

The wife of a staff sergeant with Kilo Company, the Marine Unit charged with killing civilians at Haditha, tells Newsweek magazine that the unit was a hotbed of drug abuse, alcoholism and violence.

"There were problems in Kilo company with drugs, alcohol, hazing [violent initiation games], you name it," she said. "I think it's more than possible that these guys were totally tweaked out on speed or something when they shot those civilians in Haditha."

One aside to that article from Flo. The military, in all it's wisdom, is taking kids diagnosed with PTSD from their tour in Iraq... and guess where they are sending them? Yup...back to Iraq. Yeah, that's where they should go...  Undecided
I'm afraid we'll be hearing more about civilian massacres as time goes on.

It's a flippin war for christs sake! Roll Eyes  It is tragic but civilians die.  We, America, are probably the most "civil" when it comes to battle.  We go out of our way to not bomb masques(sp), even when we know snipers are in there taking out our guys.  The Marines who killed those people are going to swing for it, the commanding officer the highest.  Nothing new, it is part of Marine doctrine.  All you arm chair quarterbacks can point fingers all you want, but it happens.  Innocents die in every war, that's why there aren't that many.  You try staying up for 3-4 days straight, have a bunch of people bomb your unit, oh BTW, they all look the same as civilians because they know it is good camoflague(sp), then pick out the bombers from the group.  Not too easy, eh?  This whole thing is really great for morale, not only for the troops over there, but for the families of their's over here.  Bet that makes them feel real good, doesn't it?  But everyone who is against the war, go ahead and bash the whole operation.  YOU'RE the real hero's, aren't you. This is the way it should be handled and the way it has been handled in the past.  Anyone who speaks on any on-going military action is usually court martialed.  When did McCaffrey retire?  1996, so he has never been boots down in Iraq, doesn't know the plan of the commanders over there, he is arm chair quarterbacking.  Yeah, he did a little report that ripped the command, but he did it from 3000 miles away.  And, as for what that Marine wife said...well, as hard to believe as it is, there has always been hazing, drug use and drinking in the military.  Some partake, some don't.  What she has done, is throw the entire unit, the Marine Corps and action over there, down the toilet, by that statment.  Now everyone who has served over there is going to be looked at as a drunk, drug user, who shoots first and asks questions later.  It's not the case.  My whole deal with this is that, we were told before the action started that it wouldn't be over quickly, that it would take time and it would cost lives.  Now that everyone has forgotten that, it is time to rip apart the command, the Presidnet and the troops on the ground.  Ask anyone who has come to this country from some war torn part of the world and they will tell you that America is the best place on the earth and that we should spread our demoracy across the planet.  Maybe everyone who has grown up in America with the freedoms that we have, is spoiled by them.  Maybe everyone should have to put in some time in the Service.  See what other people go through.  Maybe then everyone would respect the country a little bit more and see what we are doing isn't a bad thing.  I'm off my soap box Wink
