More fundamentalist bulls***?!?

While trying to find my newest favorite hard rock/metal station, i stop on one station talking about the da Vinci Code movie. They go on saying it's a bunch of crap, saying it doesn't follow 'biblical guidelines', and that it shouldn't come out. they go on that if you marry someone whose not Christian, and decide not to interfere with their kids spiritual beliefes, then the kid(s) will go satanic, especially from reading Harry Potter. and they say that the only people who can call in are Christians, yet they call themselves a free speech network. Anyone see the irony in that?

Fear generates hate and misunderstanding, Dylan. Try to remember that. As far as the free speech network goes, the irony is very clear. Don't stoop to the level of being angry, they seem to have that area covered. Feel sorry that they have such closed minds instead. Bright Blessings to you my son. Love Mom.

| They have the right to say it, you have the right to be pissed off. The only freedom of speach that isn't covered in the First Amendment is yelling FIRE in a crowded room, unless there is really a fire. Redd is right, just move along. If you want to take away their right to say what they want, then you are taking the same side as the people who fine and censor talk show host like Opie and Anthony, or put the bleeps in songs. By XM and you will have 200 channels to choose from and you can totally avoid shows like that, plus not have to deal with commericals on the music stations. HTH

The reason why Catholics ( of which I am a member) do not want to see this movie is because Brown, the author has this whole fictional theory that Jesus Christ actually married Mary Magdelane and they had children...BUT.....The worst part is that he claims that the Vatican killed people when they found out the truth. I really haven't followed the whole media circus around this thing as Matt Lauer was in France for the past three days covering the DaVinci Code opening at one of the geographical landmarks of the book.....I view Jesus Christ as my Saviour, the Son of God. I don't shove my beliefs down anybody's throat----but think of this----if they came out with a book that belittled Mohammad--the prophet------------the muslims would cut your balls off and shove them down your throat...they wouldn't waste any time on the airwaves.

Hey Dylan, Sounds like you tuned in to one of my least favorite radio stations. Whenever I listen to those guys I want to shout at the top of my lungs for everyone to hear that not all Christians listen to or are a part of stupid radio stations, and there are a lot who actually like Harry Potter. There are some of us who aren't weirdos...at least, I don't think I'm a weirdo. Going to see DaVinci Code this weekend, Casey

Being a teenager, and finding a faith path that is not mainstream but makes sence to him, Dylan walks a precarious tightrope between remaining openminded, and falling prey to the pressures of society to be "normal" or to "conform". We live in an area that is predominantly Catholic, his Paternal Grandmother is a member of a very tightly wound Fundamentalist/Evangelical chuch where he recieved his earliest religious education. He and I follow a Wiccan path. He came to this on his own this past autumn. We do not shove our beliefs down throats either. All are entitled to their beliefs. What has him upset, I suspect, is that alternative points of view, facts vs theology, were not welcome to be shared. Instead, it was a dictorial condemnation of any belief or thought that might threaten to make someone think "outside the box".

I listened to a Jesusy radio station once because of a long discussion by some annointed type that Winston Churchill's radio speeches were done by a third party. I never did get why this was the topic or what he did to inflame these jerks....it doesn't take much. Ridiculous anyway. I wish I had those minutes back. Anyway, they are all a PITA and blow out other stations around here. There oughta be a law. The Divinci Code is fiction and a movie and these idiots are insuring that its producers are going to make a shitload of money on what has been called a not too exciting film. Every time they slam Harry Potter, thousands of people make it a point to look it over. These are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Charlie

I have never heard of Catholics slamming Harry Potter, however Da Vinci Code has received some pretty awful reviews. I don't think it will make the type of money everyone thinks it has the ability to make. Ron Howard hasn't made a winner in the last three movies that he has produced. " Cinderella Man" while a very good movie---busted from opening night.

| Sure, its fictional. I don't think that the idea that Jesus might have had kids with a woman really challenges the central ideas of Christianity - the whole God as Man idea only makes sense if he is fully human, subject to pain and temptation. And having kids isn't necessarily a sin - many on this board are reputed to have kids of their own. Enjoyed the book, haven't seen the movie yet.

I agree with Casey, those who speak loudest, do not speak for all Christians. 3. den is right...we are God. All living things are part of this great cosmic consiousness we call God (or Allah, or...insert name here). I think movies are meant to be entertaining, not something to set or alter your beliefs.

Don't let them get to you, Dylan. Just remember, that all the religous fanatics beliefs are based on fiction. Did god really build all of the earth and it's beings in 7 of our days? What, when the sun went down, he called it quits for the day? I really don't think god went by the modern calander. Think of Jesus as an ancient version of Penn and Teller. He may have walked on water, but everyone else was too stupid to know that it was frozen. Now, I will get all the religous people pissed at me, but oh well...Where did I put that "Stir the Pot" smilie?

| I don't feel the need to get anyone angry, but it seems to be the way it works out lately. Maybe it is the length of this cycle, maybe I'm just getting to be more of an asshat in my old age. Maybe it is the fact that I'm an outspoken prick...Everyone has an opinion about things and I tend to voice mine. Dylan voiced his and didn't have a problem with it, nor did anyone accuse him of jumping on people's beliefs. If what I say makes someone question their beliefs, is that my fault? I wasn't personally attacking anyone, it just seems that when voicing one's opinion, that may differ from the "norm", some people get their panties in a wad. Additionally, reread my quote with a bit of sarcasm added, because that is how it was written. If you are at Convention, I will buy you a beer and we will talk. Insert Bark worse than Bite, here...

read a good one the other day regarding the issue of fundamentalists and taking the bible literally.... the argument was along the lines of, "should we live by dogma that was created and written when the highest ideal of technology was a wheelbarrow?" it's from a book called "The Loss of Faith" -- this book is sure to get the author a personal fatwa issued against him as well as excommunication from the other side. an interesting read if you can stomach a little criticism against everything.
